    ***Official*** 2025 NRL Tipping Competition

yeah I'm really torn because the margin offered here is now outdated, but at the same time I'm sort of amazed that Souths are faves cos they just don't look good on paper to me

    2024–25 NZ domestic season

Biggest thing this highlights for me is he averages over 33 at 6/7 compared to 28 for his career, which is enough of a difference to cast his batting in a slightly different light. Weirdly he has scored 37 runs for 8 dismissals at an average of 4.87 when batting 8 or lower. So basically when...

Anyway whatever Neesh is a good guy why am I trying to assess his whole career all of a sudden, much love to the big dawg

    2024–25 NZ domestic season

If you're purely there to slog and bowl quite badly, doesn't this sort of mean you're not that good? Like, really you either want a proper bowler who is also a good finisher, or a dodgy bowler who's also a proper batsman. Even in the increasingly sabermetric-ed world of post T20 ODI cricket...

    2024–25 NZ domestic season

I honestly think it's not just that his numbers are eh but that he low key has always kinda sucked (omg wow look guys it's TH being negative). Ok that's harsh, but he was always this guy and was never our next great all-rounder. Like, he was a theoretically exciting combo of big hitting and...

    All-Time New Zealand XIs - A re-run

Yeah Dipak had his shortcomings as a player, but his efforts with the new ball in WC92 probably just about get him into the all-time test team

    All-Time New Zealand XIs - A re-run

Big fax, do we want some bummy ass spinner to carve up Zimbabwe or Bangladesh or bravely grind out 5/300 while we get boshed by Australia, or do we want a CERTIFIED MATCH WINNER

    8th Match - Afghanistan v England

Maybe McCullum just thought "as a Kiwi I know what terrifies me and makes me play like a ****, let's do that" but it turns out it only works on Kiwis

    8th Match - Afghanistan v England

On one hand it's great to see BazBall failing, on the other hand it's all the more infuriating that it seems to be at its most effective when whomping and boshing hapless NZ sides in tests.

Is Dhoni greatest OdI cricketer off all-time

Reviving this thread has just reminded me how good it is that we don’t have to watch his disgusting batting anymore. Thanks for that.

    Boxing thread

Re: Parker v Bakole, it's sort of a shame because it's a really interesting fight in theory, but now we've seen a half-arsed version of it which probably means we'll never see the "real thing". Bakole is obviously a big man but I note that he fought at 229lb and 230lb earlier in his career and...

    Boxing thread

I had Bivol winning clearly enough (I didn't think the 8-4 was outrageous, I had 8-4 or 7-5) but I'm sure I could find 2 rounds I gave Bivol that were close enough that I wouldn't quibble too much with a draw. I had the first fight 7-5 Beterbiev or maybe a draw, although I probably slightly...

*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

Roxborogh’s teams suggest pretty good cricket knowledge, but he lost me with his justification for not selecting Larsen. Either he doesn’t understand the mathematical interrelationship of strike rate/economy rate, or I just really disagree with his assessment of which is more important.

    Boxing thread

Interesting - tbh I haven't watched that much of Bakole so I'm probably painting with a broad brush and I may be off the mark about the best way to beat him. I mostly just have the general idea from the Anderson fight that if Parker goes at Bakole, Bakole will probably brush off a few decent...

    Boxing thread

Also, Parker coming in heavy is probably even worse against Bakole than Dubois. With Dubois, he's big but not Bakole-big and you could maybe say that he's shown some fragility and there's an outside chance that if Parker goes to war and takes it into the later rounds he might wear him down...
