Franchise Cricket in England Domestic Season 2025

It's basically him or Mahmood I guess unless they drop Sowter.

Can't say it's a bad thing him not playing at the mo, less chance of picking up an injury.
First game for Mumb…sorry, the Oval Invincibles this season in place of Mahmood (dunno whether he was injured or simply rested) and he went for 25 off 10, although in fairness, the other bowlers also took some punishment too, Tom Curran was hit for 50 off 20, and Samit Patel (who bowled some absolute junk) went for 53 off his 20 in the Oval Invincibles’ reply

Joe Root with the heroics at the end to keep the Rockets in with a hope of topping the table, while knocking out the Brave, Spirit, Phoenix, Original and Fire. With those teams having nothing to play for, any chance they could lend some of their players back for the Metro Bank?

Just posted on the Englisgh Domestic Season thread:

"Interesting to see that a large number spare non-playing Hundred new gloves carriers have bene released back to their county for the last couple of games:
Revis, McCann, Zafar Gohar, Hammond, Higgins, Aspinwall, Pennington, Brown and Fuller."

By my reckoning Helm, Scrimshaw, Albert, Crane, Jennings, Donald, Madsen, Farhan Ahmed, Anderson, Stanley, Wells, Walter, Harrison, Parkinson, Hose, Graham Clark not played for two matches, if at all, so theoretically available.

Watched a bit of this today while having dinner and I think @GIMH owes me an apology for Manchester's terribleness

I do not support the Manchester Originals sorry.

Lancs is my pro county, though despite having a membership I’d never call myself a Lancs fan through and through. I’m going to watch Cheshire V Dorset next week and that’s where my heart really lies, because they actually represent where I’m from. Historic Cheshire includes god’s own peninsula, though I reside in modern day Cheshire nowadays anyway.

Nonetheless, Lancs loyalties aside. I enjoy The Hundred for what it is but I’d be cold in the ground before I ever cheered a team called Manchester. So there was no way they were being my Hundred team. When the first draft went down, I decided to support Ben Stokes and so pledged my colours to the Northern Superchargers mast. And now they have Harry as captain and Freddie as coach so I’m all over it.

I’ve not followed it as closely this year as the last few, but.

Anyway. No apology I’m afraid. Though when you look at their lineup they really should be a lot better.

Yep, I’ve seen a few Hundred contracted players in the Metro Bank this season, I wonder if the teams out of contention in the Hundred will start playing some of their fringe players, or will they be best off going back to their counties for the final group game (a lot of those games are dead rubbers too, but cricket is better than no cricket!)

Not that the city is particularly renowned for its cricket, but would you be more inclined to support a Liverpool franchise over a Manchester one? I’ve been following the Hundred, mainly to keep an eye on young guns like Baker and the Ahmeds, but sticking London on a badge doesn’t make me inclined to support the Spirit

Don’t think I could ever bring myself to support a Liverpool named team either.

Strange that they’ve not scheduled a double header today with it being a Bank Holiday.

Surrey, I mean, Oval, trying to do a Shakib by signing Zampa for one game. How large are the squads? If you sign 18 players you shouldn't need replacements whether for injury or international duty.

A bigger thing for me must be that if they knew that Rashid Khan wasn't available for the whole of the tournament then why not go for someone who was? IMO they look less strong with the ball as their seamers aren't all that and with only one proper slow bowler in Sowter. That said they have ridiculous power with the bat.

Rashid Khan was pretty average for much of the tournament too but they should be selecting a squad for the entire tournament accounting for injury and internationals rather than seeking replacements.

Hundred continues to be a good value family day out. Eldest two RIS children went to the Roses derby Superchargers vs Originals match yesterday. First ever trip to the cricket for my daughter, who loved it all, though sad that the Supercharger men lost. Was surprised to see Samit Patel playing as I thought he had retired years ago, but he was the home side's best batsman!

My experience of going to a couple of Hundred games two years back was that it did seem to be far more kids friendly than, especially a Friday evening at the Blast. Don't get me wrong, I like the more natural rivalry that those games engender and a more natural backing of the players but I get why you think that from my experience.

Time to put the Hundred out of its misery, low standard low scoring shitfests are not what the punters want to see. The ladies especially has been very poor stuff, no girl hit a fifty today and zero sixes. Garbage.

On the other hand the Brave are the only team to win every group stage match in the history of the competition. Bell has been fantastic. I think eight teams is probably too many to assure high quality in the women's tournament but you could say that about the men's too.

If the IPL was to vanish tomorrow I wouldn't be to bothered, but that's the blueprint of this format.

The Hundred this year has been low scoring dirt, this is not aimed at purists ,. its for the casuals and they want to see sixes , big chases etc.

So far its been mainly low scoring and quite dull overall. The girls stuff especially has been a chore to watch.
