English Domestic Season 2025

I looked at a few scorecards and Durham/Warwickshire for two seemed to be playing a few first team regulars from the championship, different format I know. Will be interesting to see the sides the likes of Yorkshire/ Lancs put out.
Lancs put this on their website - of course 3 of the 14 would not have played at Sedbergh:

"Lancashire squad to face Northants Steelbacks:

Marcus Harris*, Tom Bailey, George Balderson, Charlie Barnard, George Bell, Jack Blatherwick, Josh Bohannon, Kesh Fonseka, Michael Jones, Joe Moores, Arav Shetty, Harry Singh, Ollie Sutton, Will Williams

Lancashire are without 12 First Team contracted players - James Anderson, Tom Aspinwall, Jos Buttler, Rocky Flintoff, Tom Hartley, Matty Hurst, Keaton Jennings, Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mahmood, Phil Salt, Luke Wells and Luke Wood - due to their participation in The Hundred."

No word on Boyden, Stanley or Philip who theoretically should be available. Barnard, Fonseka, Moores, Shetty all came through their academy but yet to play first class cricket. Sutton and Singh played a game or two in the county championship. Shetty also been playing for SACA and other 2nd XI after being allowed to look elsewhere after leaving the Academy before being given a second chance. Moores made List A against the Pakistan touring team last week (16 years old) nephew of Peter Moores already played 10 ODI matches for England u19.

Is it worth asking how Rocky got a gig in the hundred?

Surrey forced into giving a player a List A debut today. Alex French who is an England U19 ODI international. The silver lining of losing 15 players to franchise cricket?

Nepotism

Disgraceful and unfair on the player as he should be playing in the One Day Cup at this point in his career.

Time in the middle more important than just giving his lad a financial lift.

If he gets in the side at all for the Leeds crispackets. I'd be raging with Freddie if I was one of the players not selected.

Not even played a senior t20 game which is just wrong in terms of meriting the Hundred gig. He didn't do bad against India U19s earlier this year but even so, that's the context that says he needs senior list A games

I've just looked at the Leeds globetrotters and seems like he might sneak in if they rest Brook and Crawley for a bit.

Only have 5 other batsman excluding them 2 in Clark, Lawrence, Malan, Miller and Pepper. So Flintoff probs sneaks in at 6 if they aren't playing.

If they are available he shouldn't be playing ahead of them 7.

So what's the point when he could be attempting to score runs for Lancashire and face a lot more than probably fewer than 100 balls for the next month.

Albeit you could argue the standard of the bowlers he will face in the nets will be good practice for him, but it doesn't replicate a match situation.

I personally think it's stupidity just like it was for Bethell to spend most of April-July carrying drinks.

Century partnership for the Rew brothers as they look to be seeing Somerset home against Middlesex, young Thomas has been particularly impressive in getting to 50 in his second List A game (apparently the FCC XI game against the Pakistan Shaheens had List A status)

James secures his century off 89 balls and Somerset get over the line in the very next ball
Middlesex always looked a bit short after the dip in the middle-late stage of their innings. I always thought they Somerset had the chase in hand but the Rew brothers did indeed do well to settle it. Rew Jr started a little slowly but a chat with his brother seemed to prompt him to play more aggressively and all went well after that. A good crowd in an admittedly smallish ground.

I'm wondering if young Thomas might be more talented than his brother. It seems highly likely that we see them play together for England at some point. Who were the last brothers to do so? I presume the Currans did in a white ball game, but red ball?

Apparently the Rew brothers have played a lot of Squash and Golf together too, doing all the right things.......
