I wonder how successful Stuart Macgill would have been if he was born in India? He is roughly the same age as Kumble and would have made a unique pair.

Kumble would be dropped for MacGill I guess. Or maybe both would play, MacGill being the more successful one.

Murali got huge turn and fizz after the ball pitched. Macgill didn't have that zip as I recall. Which is strange because both obviously put big action on the ball to make it go that much. Might be due to the open-chested nature of the off-spinner's action in general allied to Murali's special skills.

Finger spinners and leg spinners (plus murali) probably shouldn't be compared to each other. Leggies win easily.

Also leg break vs googly deliveries. Legbreak specialists win.

Murali is the outlier

It's related to height. Shorter bowlers like Murali can give the ball more flight and loop. Taller bowlers have a flatter trajectory

Won't make a Ranji team given how he was taken to cleaners by Indian and Sri Lankan batsmen. Some Indian domestics play spin better than their internationals as well. Pakistan and Sri Lanka, he would have a chance because our FC batsmen are not as good as indian ones against spin.
