SeamUp
International Coach
First year out of school cricketers signed professionally;
Lhuan-dre Pretorius Titans
Richard Seletswane Lions
Kwena Maphaka Lions
Nqobani Mokoena Dolphins
Raeeq Daniels WP
Ntando Soni Warriors
Benni Hansen SWD
Most know about Pretorius & Maphaka.
Seletswane is a very correct middle order batsman who has shown great capabilities spending time at the crease & scoring big 100s. There are big hopes as we well know. Very compact too. I like a batsman to be in charge of his defence and he is.
Mokoena is a much improved seamer who went with SA-emerging side to Bangladesh recently. His bowling has come on leaps and bounds. Got stronger and more skillful. Just the consistency that needs work. Capable of giving it a good smash down the order. Definitely all-rounder potential.
Raeeq Daniels was the stand-out seamer in the U19 cricket season. Skiddy at good pace and can swing the ball. Got high hopes. Just think he will need that professional environment now to get stronger for longer spells.
Ntando Soni in the current SA U19 side is tall seamer who has made the move to PE from Durban. Think he will be more your first change bowler pushing you back now and again but it's his line bowling that will test your technique on and off-stump.
Benni Hansen was the SA Schools Captain 2 years running. Very accomplished middle order-batsman and wicket-keeper who I think has made a good move playing Div 2 so early as he will no doubt be a Div 1 player on time.
An XI to watch not signed up bar maybe some with HP contracts
Kashief Joseph WP
Jorich v Schalkwyk Titans
Muhammed Bulbulia Tuskers
Ross Coetzee Dolphins
Steve Stolk Titans
Divan de Villiers Titans
Chad Mason Tuskers
Cole Francis Lions
Nathan Rossouw NW
Esosa Aihevba Lions
Sandiswa Yeni Titans
Joseph is classy timer of the ball. He also tends to go big when he gets in. Started well in Club cricket in Cape Town at Rondebosch CC and was straight into the WP Colts Team.
Van Schalkwyk & Bulbulia in the current SA U19 squad are more sedate batsmen suited to the longer formats but they have enough class to be able to play 50-over too. Jorich can bowl a bit of off-spin. Bulbulia will have to keep wicket. They go big these 2. Big daddy 100s.
Ross Coetzee was the class batsman at last KMCW. Very good manipulator of the ball & whilst he is technically correct has all the modern strokes too. I don't know what it is but Durban/PMB have slowed down in batsman production from the heady days of McGlew, McLean, Goddard, Irvine , Richards, Procter, Fotheringham & Whitfield that their schools were producing and then the re-birth with Hudson, Rhodes, Benkenstein, Amla, Pietersen & Miller + others so I'm hoping he along with Romashan Pillay & Slade van Staden they start a new trend. Ross bowls handy off-spin. Also started his Dolphins Colts career well.
Everyone knows Stolk from his fabulous hitting in the U19 CWC. He is a player worth persevering with because of his dynamism. He was playing with an eye condition that he had now sorted out and is bowling good seamers with his stocky frame. The x-factor to develop in both disciplines.
Divan de Villiers is another all-rounder to watch. He played SA U19s v England earlier this year. Leaner in frame to Stolk & perhaps more rounded for the longer format for now. More reliable and steady. Already scored a 150 for Titans Colts.
Chad Mason was impressive with his leadership, leg-spin & batting for Maritzburg, Dolphins U19s & SA U19s. Started well for the Tuskers Colts too. Was at the recent CSA spin-bowling camp in Durban.
Cole Francis is a tall and strong seamer ready to hit the deck. Almost in the frame & role of his former fellow St Johns teammate CJ King who has started his professional career well with the Warriors. Some handy lower-order striking too.
Nathan Rossouw balances the spin-bowling options being a disciplined slow left-arm spinner. The boy from Klerksdorp forced his way into the SA U19s squad v England.
Esosa Aihevba given a HP contract at the Lions and he is quick but very raw. He could be anything if he develops under the guidance of Allan Donald. Follows in the line of St Stithians quicks from Rabada & Maphaka.
Yeni is the more steady work-horse seamer who can challenge both edges who has left Durban & gone to Tuks. Teammates at Kearsney with Ross Coetzee.
Some others worth watching: Pranav Raichetti (Lions), Semal Pillay (Dolphins), Ruben Maree (Knights), Lethabo Phahlamohlaka (Titans), Divan Linde (SWD), Marcus Bakker (Titans), Adam Cannata (Titans), Charl Prinsloo (Titans)
