South African Domestic Season 2025/26

Weird that Van Heerden bowled himself 10 overs, when he's never been bowled domestically... Good to see Simelane putting his hand up with the bat, as he's often batted very low and struggled to get middle time. It seems we tried to play a 1-spinner attack on a spinning pitch?

There are a lot of weird things.

Forrester batting 7 when he never bats that low. Not sure he is an opening-bowling option too.

M Manack hasn't really played List A. One game and got a duck.

Marais averaged under 10 in Div 2.

Mogakane was mainly batting 7 this season and they really do like to give him opportunity which he doesn't take because he can look good.

Raeeq Daniels outbowled Nqobani Mokoena for the whole of the U19 summer. That's not even getting on to the lack of frontline seamers so why no Peters, Boast or CJ King.

Sort of tried to get a picture of things whilst watching a bit of the bowling.

Simmonds isn't not picked, he is out with a major knee ligament injury I believe, otherwise he probably would've been at least in the emerging squad I'd say (yes, he's older, but he's always been behind other players, be they Linde, Piedt or I forget who when he went briefly up country, and thus not had as much exposure...)

If they're picking with long term goals in mind then players like Marais make more sense; same with Lourens and Nzuza in the ladies side (Lourens has hit one hundred, but both average in the 20's in women's List A). The two craziest picks in these squads for me are still Jaftha and Kula in the ladies side, as they're close to retirement, not emerging... And then Nini isn't playing, despite dominating the u-19 (and she's stuck in a 2nd div side it seems, at least until leaving school).

Not confirmed yet but clubcricket told me Hansen and Daniels have got HP contracts.

Was more going on players that will be used. Expect Lawrence & Whitehead to get contracts.

To find better balance I would try and help find opportunities for Bayoumy elsewhere. Juan James to but mainly so he can play again and come back to WP later. Kitime and Bird up in the air too. Is Pato retiring after Lords is another question.

CSA Contracted: David Miller (36), Keshav Maharaj (35)

Batsmen: Jon-Jon Smuts (37), Khaya Zondo (35), Jason Smith (31), Marques Ackerman (29), Bryce Parsons (24), Slade van Staden (22), Romashan Pillay (20)

Wk/batsmen: Tshepang Dithole (32), Hanu Viljoen (24)

Spinners: Prenelan Subrayen (32)

Seamers: Ottneil Baartman (32), Okuhle Cele (28), Tristan Luus (20), Nqobani Mokoena (19)

I didn't include Banele Cele and Bradley Porteous. Just can't see how they will play much. I'm a big fan of Ross Coetzee (broke Chad Bowes' and all Kearney College's records) but maybe a gap opens up for him when JJ Smuts retires. He along with Blake Simpson and Semal Pillay were in the Dolphins Colts batting line-up back end of last season.

Shouldn't Pillay be an all-rounder? And Van Staden is also a keeper...
You could put them there. Slade does keep too. But it's a bit like Daniel Smith, I don't think they need keeping.

Plus Pillay is very gentle medium like Jason Smith I don't think it will AR material but can chip in.

Mokgakane 56 & Esterhuizen out for 91

Van Heerden & Forrester at the crease.

Comms sound like robots. Calling Esterhuizen "Connor" 😂

Crowds were pretty impressive for an "emerging" series. I've been to sa a games before and the grounds are basically empty.
