English Domestic Season 2025

you have to be concerned because McCullum is like his dad. They love each other. They see one another in each other. They are inseparable in this team. Without Stokes there is no Bazball
I'm sure the two of them can find a Premier Inn room somewhere if needed. Maybe a Premier inn Plus room.?

I see Adnan from Freddie Flintoffs Field of Dreams made his debut for Lancashire 2nd XI this week. Good luck to the lad.
not sure too many others of that squad will be following him in that respect.

in other news Lancashire have extended the John Turner's loan in order to continue to exclude the likes of Boyden, Sutton and Aspinwall (who are supposed to be the future of the club). Am begining to think that Hampshire will release him at the end of the season and he will join Lancs.

Then Harry Singh saves the 2nds XI game against Yorkshire by batting all day and scoring 154* (his second hundred in the last 5 days) but isn't in the squad.

Not sure the loan system in cricket is that good an idea. What are second XIs for?
Seems like second XI is just who ever they can get in recent times.

Durham had coaches and players they'd released turning out last year. Mind Will Gidman got promoted to fielding got the 1st team this year.

Not dissimilar at Lancs.
Yesterday Jack Carney reappeared for Lancashire after extended trials for Derby and Kent in 2024 following representing England u19 when "unattached". Played Lancashire under 14s through to 2nd XI up to to 2023.
Arav Shetty ex Lancashire academy also played after being allowed to talk to other counties and representing SACA. Lancs have always given the odd game here and there.
Ollie Sutton came back to the club last year after touring other counties. He's now on Lancs staff.
Last year they 'selected' two players from Cumbria in a few games. Not entirely sure either are guaranteed games in the National Counties set up.
There seems to be a willingness to cast the net far and wide for a game or two, if not whoever is willing to travel these days. In the current round of friendlies, it ok to play 13 or 14. Adnan Miakhel missed the last day due of the current game to having an exam. His substitution must have been planned. Injury replacements routine.
Meanwhile Yorkshire turned up at Northern to play Lancs seconds with half a dozen first teamers, when did Finn Bean last miss a first team game?

the ball is too slow in Div 2 for quality players like Crawley, who is used to facing 90mph + , and this is ruining his rhythm. Aka he has to reduce his level to the level of Div 2 which is something he is not willing to do. If anything, a valliant showing from Crawley

Lancashire still selecting on seniority, when Jones dropped out (death in the family) there was no other excuse to pick George Bell over the inform Harry Singh. Bell has little or no pedigree as an opener.
Website suddenly saying Aspinwall picked up a side strain in the Lord's match. Yet he subsequently played and bowled for the second team 11 days after the Middlesex match. Lancashire comms team exist in an alternative truth world.

Talking of second XI cricket, is there a county second team Michael Finan hasn't yet played for?

Not sure if it's just the cameras but there are some very green pitches in evidence today.

No toss at Hampshire with Durham opting to bat

315 for 5 currently after being 80 odd for 4

Robinson 76 with Clark no 100 and Drissell no 50 leading the recovery

I’m sorry if any Hampshire fans are about but I can’t help but laugh in a smutty way when Felix Organ is bowling

Anyone got Fe’s phone number ?

Jamal Richards is on loan at Kent and playing against Middlesex so take back what I said about the loan system.
Unfortunately he had a day to regret - slapped it to cover for a duck and then his line was all to pot.

On the theme of attendances, there was a decent CC crowd at Lord’s today, if maybe a bit lower than that at the Oval last Friday - the weather surely helps.
