Wayne Parnell was one of the biggest wastes of talent ever ..

How good was he at 18/19 ..bowling 140+ , could bat , great fielder..he had it all but was in and out the team which never really helped his development
Literally was coming around the wicket and moving the ball both ways. I remember Boeta Dippenaar comparing him to Wasim Akram after Knights v Warriors game

Then was amazing in that T20 WC in England swinging it up front and the yorkers at the death.

Up there with Duminy and Rudolph under-achievers.

I might be misremembering, but I think he picked up an injury not all that long after he made his international debut which resulted in him remodelling his action and he was never quite the same afterwards. That possibly contributed to him being in and out of the team.

The hype was real with him. I still have the SA cricket mag after he captained the U-19 team. I still think he could have been useful in Tests because his bowling could be leaky but he had genuine wicket taking ability and his batting was never about slogging from the outset.

I have fond memories of him basically being our best ODI bowler for a stretch. I couldn’t think of three other left armers so he got lumped in.
It was odd his success.

Did he swing it much?

My memory is batsman fancied coming at him because of Dale/Morne/Tahir in the attack and his extra bounce which was alarming at times and cutters got most of his wickets when batsman came at him.

Bethell really suffering the back end of the summer due to lack of cricket. This should have been a breakout summer for him but he's been really poor across formats.

Funny how a team that's been smashing it around for 100 balls for the last month has no idea how to pace a 50 over innings.

He could swing it. I think his success was built around him being a left armer who tucked up batters, decent accuracy, surprising bounce and a really good off cutter. He was actually a perfect foil to the fast bowlers we had and Kallis/Albie.

Yeah who'd have thought it. The lack of 50 over cricket played by the top domestic players should be a real concern for the England management. Once the established boys retire how do you pick a batting line-up when you have no idea if any of them are good 50 over players because none of them will have played more than a handful of games?

There was Yusuf Abdulla who played two T20s for us back in 2009. I don't really remember anything about him, so I've no idea why he didn't play more (injuries?) as his career stats look pretty good.

The heater!

Used to love watching domestic games when he got it right! Left-arm swing is a joy to watch with a slight sling action.

But yeah, I think he struggled with fitness and weight issues.

Christ. This is ****ing dreadful. I like Will Jacks, but another one who has played so little 50 over cricket. 21 List A innings outside of the ODi's he's played and his record is not good.

Absolute embarrassment this innings, only Duckett and Root got good ones, the rest have been dire. Who'd have thought picking an opener to bat 7 could go wrong?
