Women's Rugby World Cup 2025

Played in England, who really ought to be winning, but that hasn't stopped NZ from pipping them in pretty much every tournament up to this point. NZ have never lost to England in a WRWC, that one time England won was when the Black Ferns mysteriously lost to Ireland. The cup opens tonight with the hosts playing the USA in Sunderland with what looks like a full strength XV.

Odds at the time of writing:

1 to 3 odds on is a fairly wild rate for the field leaders in a 16 team tournament but I expect it's set with basically the same odds as a completely presumed final appearance. Note that the winners of pools A and C, whoever they are, cannot meet before the final.

The expansion to 16 sides will probably make parts of the group stages look fairly ceremonial, but the additional dice rolls for an upset here and there could well be worth it and it does lend some of the likes of Wales and South Africa some more high-stakes matches.

Brazil are playing in their first ever RWC, women or otherwise.

what's the crossover? group A with B so a Canada v Australia QF looks likely?

there's certainly been some geographic choices in the scheduling too
Yeah, and winner A / 2nd in B will go on to play winner of D / 2nd in C in the semis.

So if all goes by the book the rest of the tournament goes:
QFs: England v Scotland; Canada vs Australia; NZ vs SA; France vs Ireland
Semis: England vs France, NZ vs Canada

Rather annoyed at the scheduling for Aus v Samoa - kicks off at about half time of the Wallabies v Springboks.

As stated, England should walk this, got the players and the depth to walk it in, England reserves would be 2nd favorite.

Didn't really compare to the RWC2015 opening, that's for sure
To be honest when it comes to sporting "cultural" things there's the (1) Summer Olympic opening ceremony, (2) Superbowl HT Show (3) Summer Olympic Closing Ceremony and then "idgaf, why do they bother?"

Yeah can't argue with that tbh, though I personally put the superbowl HT lower and lower.

USA showing a little bit of steel here early, can kind of see that England is a few classes above though.

Pretty sure every scrum will be an England penalty tonight.

That looked brutal for the USA #7, hope not a broken jaw or something.

Maybe a 5/10 performance from England so far. Some good moments but not enough quality on show so far.

Suspect they'll turn it up a gear, or at least it'll look like they have, when the replacements come on in the second half.

Ellie Kildunne really turning it on in the second half.

Comfortable victory for the Red Roses, to pretty much the surprise of nobody. It'll be interesting to see what team they go for in the game against Samoa.
