5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

Siraj aside, India still has some seam bowling issues to sort out. The clock is always running on Bumrah. Prasidh is ridiculously inconsistent but has wicket-taking ability so worth persisting with. Akash I'm afraid has been shown up as the series wore on and his efforts in the outfield, in particular that one boundary yesterday where he just lazily stuck out his boot, are droppable offenses. Kamboj is not Test-level. Ideally we would discover one good quick in his mid-20s as understudy to Bumrah-Siraj. Fortunately we have an year or more before seamers are seriously pressed into service so there's time for someone to come through.

didn't cook go really well with the lions in australia last winter? with their ashes obsession in mind, its weird they have a complete aversion to him.
Pace of course is not the be all and end all, but I don’t think their aversion to Cook is too weird considering he can barely hit 80mph, I personally think Potts has more reason to feel a bit aggrieved

Current pace attack looks decent enough. Bumrah-Siraj-Prasidh with Deep being the 4th pacer is a good attack. Issue is none of them can bat long though Deep somehow did a bit this test.

It wasn't so much the pace he bowled when he started, it is more that his second and third spells were Ollie Robinson bad in the test that he did play., suggesting problems and bowling 20 good overs per day, which you have to do at test match level. There is a case of course, that he would have gone better given the prevailing conditions at the Oval, and it is a fair point that there was little merit to the Jamie Overton call-up, but even so there are reasonable concerns over Cook.

I didn’t see all of that Test (****ing work!), he started off well at around that 80mph mark, but you’re right, he couldn’t sustain even that relatively leisurely pace, and there were a few rather sorry bouncer attempts which just sat up really nicely for the Zimbabwe batters. Potts usually operates in that 80-85mph zone, which is plenty quick enough to succeed at Test level, I don’t know why he’s vanished off the face of the earth

Before bazball:

4-1 win and 2-2 draw against Ind in Eng
2-2 draw against Aus in Eng
1-3 loss against Ind in Ind

After bazball:

2-2 draw against Ind in Eng
2-2 draw against Aus in Eng
1-4 loss against Ind in Ind

After bazball they won 3-0 in Pak and 2-1 in NZ but before bazball they won 3-0 in SL and 3-1 in SA.

Brook will emerge from Aus either a drastically changed i.e. humbled batsman or the most arrogant, impetuous one since Viv. The future of world cricket rests on Cummins & co.'s shoulders.

potts just seems to have zero redeemable features at test level outside his stamina. i see him how you see cook tbh, completely get why they aren't in for him. of course this does not explain the mind numbing selection of overton.

Congratulations India for such a thrilling win. Surely has to rank up there with their greatest victories on foreign soil. I tip my hat to India's bowlers for an incredible fightback, and to their batting and fielding for keeping them in the game. Siraj is now up there with the great bowlers of Indian cricket, in my opinion. Lots of potential in Shubman Gill's side, and this will give them confidence. Yes, they may not have won their first series in the UK for 18 years, but I think the best is yet to come for this young team. Still haven't forgiven Gambhir for some team selections though. Hope he learns from his mistakes, like developing a good fast bowling attack, not giving away momentum with the bat, and consistently fielding well.

Also huge kudos to England. Results aside, I really like a lot of the outside the box thinking that's changing the way people think about test cricket. It's hard not to admire the team culture that Baz and Stokes have built over the last 3 years (with that "no d***heads" policy, it will be even better). A special mention to Joe Root and Harry Brook's swashbuckling stuff, and Atkinson's 8 fer. Also, my respect for Chris Woakes went up several knots. He is a team mean, one who often goes unnoticed. To come out with only one arm to bat takes a lot of courage. If this is among the last times we see him in whites, it's been a pleasure. On to a thrilling Ashes! Ain't no way Glenn McGrath can predict 5-0 this time.

We should always remind ourselves of what we are grateful for in life. And I'm thankful to share the earth with the best, purest format of the game, test match cricket. Every lesson of life can be learned by playing the longest form of the game. But we needn't be complacent, for there are times where its future remains dire. It will take the whole cricketing world to demand its preservation across all nations, and not just the Big 3. So I hope the future generations know that this format is for them too. It takes humanity for sport to happen. And long may we see that shining for this traditional, confusing, but eternally beautiful and beloved game. Cricket, lovely cricket.

Bumrah 3 games 14 wickets @26.00

A typical Indian parent reaction - "What is this beta? You are not studying hard enough? See, because of your complacency your bowling average is coming close to 20"

Wasn't the BGT breaking records for engagement and viewer numbers in India too?
Not necessarily, there are televisions in restaurants showing test matches irrespective of whether the customers are watching the game or not.

Some random fan out of nowhere in the middle will shriek - "C'mon Pant!!! Aur maar saale ko!! Dho daalo uss spinner ko"

We still have mayank yadav. Yudhvir gurnoor and yash thakor will make side in year or two. And then there is young eden tom apple who would be our main pacer one day
