Chappell has the same issues as Trueman (2/3rds at home, relatively modest records in relevant overseas countries) that convineantly get ignored because he has a nice moustache or something, so on the account of more home dominance and being a frontline pacer, Trueman would beat the dogshit out of WSC-less Chappell. WSC-Boost Chappell is close though but still Trueman due to the 1963-64 Windies series.

Greg is really overrated....... Literally everything you can criticise Trueman for, Greg had it worse. And above it, he also had a fairly Short career, while Trueman played on and on.

1962 : 5 Tests. 20 wkts @ 26 in Australia.
1963 : 2 Tests. 14 wkts @ 11 in NewZealand.

Greg Chappell’s memorable away performances.
1972 : 5 Tests. 437 runs @ 48 in England.
1973 : 5 Tests. 342 runs @ 49 in WestIndies.
1974 : 3 Tests. 449 runs @ 90 in NewZealand.
1979 : 3 Tests. 381 runs @ 76 in Pakistan.
1982 : 3 Tests. 235 runs @ 75 in NewZealand.

Greg’s best performance was in the 1978 WSC in WestIndies where he scored 620 against the likes of Andy Roberts, Michael Holding and Colin Croft.

The Highlighted aren't as good as the stats imply they are or just straight up don't matter, Like Greg averages 40 in New Zealand outside of one road, was average in Pakistan on wickets that could have results, averages 40 in english Ashes to Trueman's 26 in Australia and Trueman's 1960 WI blows away Greg's 1973 West Indies.

Regardless, I think the majority of the forum doesn't count WSC, in my thread this was the result, the vast majority think that they are equivalent to first class records.

And if First Class Records from Chappell are to be mentioned, they would also be mentioned for Trueman and at that point it'd become a complete mess, Trueman for example performed well in India against very strong batting lineups in FC games, should we bring that up?

Greg has ATG away series, Trueman has none

The focus seems to be on Greg here, but Trueman has his deficiencies as well and was often not even selected for overseas tours.

Don't think Trueman has anything to compare to the WSC tour to the WI.

He wasn't selected consistently for home games either, and as we all know in good faith, it wasn't for Cricketing reasons.

And if course, even if one thinks they're close on primary, Greg was an ATG in his secondary skill, which really pushes it further in his direction.

I could be wrong, but wasn't it you that defended some of Hutton's decisions when it came to over season tours?

May be Peterhrt, but yeah recall reading a defence for same.

In Hutton's book, he claims he did favour Trueman for 1954-55 Ashes eventually, well after the West Indies tour, but the decision was overturned by the MCC who did not like his behaviour in West Indies. Can't really do anything there.

There's really no reason he should've been dropped at home in 1956 Ashes or any time he was dropped anywhere after 1957.

Chappell was a 70s/80s Compton propped up by a Australian pornstar look fetish.
One of many players I've asked former players about. One of the comments that stands out was, he wasn't especially dominant or even as fluent as some portray, but he was an excellent batsman who would be knocking it around and you would look up and he was 50.

He was a great player but that does not contradict what I said.
