3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

I've only caught glimpses, but the pundits' comments 10 overs ago were that the 2nd new ball was doing plenty. Was it simply a case of England's quicks not being good enough to take advantage? And wtf was going on with all the missed run-out opportunities?
The ball is still doing things, but the frontline seamers have been bowling since 2nd session yesterday so Stokes is bowling them from just one end now so as to rotate them. He is being mindful of not overbowling them on a hot day.

Cricket balls have not evolved to keep up with bigger bats, harder pitches and stronger players. You might actually need a more rigid, yet softer material than leather. Maybe a synthetic ball that is also therefore waterproof, eliminating the influence of wet outfields.

Yeah, Woakes being absolutely fried and Carse carrying an injury is also an issue.

The Wheel is Forever
This was before my time so I don’t know but does anyone have stats on how many overs the West Indies quartet bowled in a given day back in the 70s/80s? I wonder if the over rates have significantly decreased.

Can England give Kyle Abbott citizenship and poach him on an emergency basis? Worth trying at this point if these are the best bowlers in England.

England have been too wayward. Archer and Stokes have had some very good spells, but by and large they have not been disciplined today.
