South African Domestic Season 2025/26

Gauteng cricket for so long was Jeppe, St Johns, King Edward and St Stithians.

Now the new boys are in town and St Davids is one. Temba Bavuma & Dominic Hendricks were their first ones. They had a couple more since but not really gone on. It's Marist Bros so a Catholic school but open to all.

Expect all 3 to be in the SA U19 squad.

Armaan Manack, Jason Rowles & Kamogelo Phiri.

Has EC still not officially announced their squad?
Yeah, it's crazy. Last Thursday they said their squad was about to drop and still nothing.

Amazingly Vinnie Barnes is doing fast-bowling camps around the Provinces and Duanne Olivier is still there for the Warriors one. No idea how they going to fit everyone into the squad limits with all those quick bowling signings.

Boland also haven't announced theirs yet.

And it seems one Muhamed Bulbulia is the source of the social media tension. Relative of kzn inland signing?
Border, fs and limpopo in div 2 also no squads, though Limpopo posted many signings...
What are the details?

All 6 first div ladies' squads are up (still waiting on 2 men's) - I have High Schools details for 92/98. By HS of origin -
  1. Central Gauteng 17 players. Steyn City has five; Jeppe has three; and Forte, Mafori Mphahlele and Seana Marena all in Soweto have two each. 3/6 unknowns are likely from Gauteng Schools
  2. KZN Coastal. 14 players. Mandlenkosi HS in Ntuzuma has three; Durban High has two and Arena Park in Chatsworth two
  3. Tied North-West 11 players - Potch Gim has 3, Botoka Tech 2 (1/6 missing HS details)
  4. Tied Northerns 11 players - Four schools with 2 players Menlo Park in Pta; Zwartkop in Centurion and Prestige and Boitsepo in Hammanskraal.
  5. Tied WP 10 players - only HS Bellville has two
  6. Tied with Border - despite being in div 2
  7. Eastern Gauteng - 4 players
  8. Garden Route - 3 players. Despite being in div 1
  9. KZN Inland Tied - 3 players
  10. FS. Tied - 3 players.
  11. EP tied. 2 players
  12. Mpumalanga. 2 players
  13. Boland . 1 player
  14. Northern Cape . 1 player
  15. Limpopo & Kei. 0 players. (1/6 missing details probably from Limpopo).
It is crazy that Garden Route have stayed in div 1 with very few local players, whereas Border have exported so many players (it is possible the 5 from around Fort Hare actually fall under Kei though, I'm not sure how those two regions are split, as it's defunct on the men's side.)

With the SA U19 squad about to be picked & the team going for 30 years I thought it would be interesting to see a stats breakdown.

(I included the SA U19 squad that played against our Provinces during COVID which is only fair for them).

Numbers represented by each Province:

Central Gauteng : 72
Western Province : 62
Kwa-Zulu Natal : 59
Northern Gauteng : 47
Eastern Province : 44
Free State : 25
Boland : 25
Border : 20
North West Gauteng : 13
Eastern Gauteng : 12
Northern Cape : 9
South West Districts : 3

Will go into players & schools a bit later.

Sounds like CSA approval for an SA squad takes a couple days so squad announcement tomorrow but in the mean time 30 years of SA U19s is going through a lot of players. Some kick on and some don't (see if you can recognise some names & even a Springbok rugby player) but the proper prodigies tend to do so. Many played SA Schools/Colts and not U19s and vice-versa.

Guys like Pollock, Gibbs , Kallis ,Boje, Klusener, HD Ackerman, Benkenstein, M van Jaarsveld + others were the couple of years before SA U19s started in 1995 so they had just SA Schools & Colts.

Hope it's decently visible. Just highlighted internationals but many had decent domestic careers too.

Forget to check if Charlie Bowes & Dean Foxcroft have been capped by New Zealand. Think they have been.

I lie. Squad is announced.

In: Armaan Manack (St Davids), Vihan Pretorius (Affies) & Corne Botha (Noordheuwel) so they will be the new caps to add when they play.

Out: Lethabo Phahlamohlaka (Cornwall Hill/Tuks), Waco Bassick (Bishops) & Dayalan Boyce (Westville)

Two younger brothers of FC cricketers in Vihan Pretorius and Paul James in the squad shows that cricket runs in families.

Goolam Bodi is Lenasia here. Other sources (ESPN) have Azaadville Secondary? They're quite far apart. Azaadville is between Krugersdorp and Roodepoort...

Went with the Khaya Majola Cricket Week (Old Nuffield Week) booklet that has him down as Lenasia.

Another one which is tricky is Vereeniging counting as Transvaal/Gauteng for Malan & Albie Morkel. Morne just played KM Week but also for Gauteng. Nowadays that would count as Easterns.

Same as Marais Viljoen there was Gerrie De Bruyn who represented Gauteng and you would be Easterns now.
