Don’t think anyone is shocked here. Ngidi is being selected for Tests in the bowler he could have been, not what he is.
The problem is he has barely played FC cricket , and I'm sorry but white ball can never prepare you for the grind of test cricket especially if you are injury prone.

What evidence has Ngidi shown that he can get through 20 overs a day recently ?

His last FC match was against the West Indies in August 2024 , that was 10 months ago ..

So in the last 10 months he has not played any form of FC cricket due to injury , and now he's playing a WTC final ? That's a bit naive from the coaches I reckon.

I thought SA were optimistic bowling first, it felt like a batting day to me. Aside from the review (or lack of it) and Ngidi being off rhythm they've not put a foot wrong.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the Aussies can do with their attack! Building up to be a good test already.

Whatever it takes!!!
Great spell by Rabada, good spell by Jansen, amazing catching by the Proteas but still feels this is a par score which is above par given the relative strengths of the sides.

It was the right call given how overcast things were here in London this morning. It is now bright sunshine. If SA are going to make headway to get a decisive score, they get a decent shove on this evening. For those who aren't from England, there is such a huge disparity in batting conditions when the sun is out to when it is very overcast. As a certain Geoffrey Boycott once said, when talking about his beloved Headingley, look up and not down! It applies to many other grounds in England to be honest.
