*Official* India tour of England 2025 General Discussion

Kirkut

International Regular
Kinda quietly confident this time, for whatever reason.

But pretty low expectations as well, so maybe its coz of that.
Similar to our 2007 tour maybe. Fab 5 were our of form and we got thrashed in the World Cup, New openers and a new bowling lineup - less expectations and lots of surprises.

This tour will not be as painful as our 2011 humiliation even if we lose 5-0. I'm certain of this.

Whatever it takes!!!
The speeds of everyone seems well below what they are in the international games here in this practice game. Wonder if Kambhoj would actually be a decent option in that case, as he was hitting 80 mph here and Shardul is just there at 75.

He'd be on my list now. Leading wicket taker for Sussex this season so far and hasn't got the results his bowling has actually shown. But I don't think he'll play for England again unless there's a change in coaching set up.
He's not part of the clique- his golf handicap is probably too high for our "Baz".

So Tongue has gotten injured by the looks of it. Since Eng don't have anyone else in the squad, that surely means Cook is starting the first test alongside Carse and Woakes now?

Actually forget this, Tongue's bowling in the A vs Lions game, he only went off for a brief period yesterday

If Tongue isn't fit then JOverton might be the replacement. Cook would cover the opening bowlers but JOverton would be the replacement "heavy ball/enforcer" type they like to have in the side.

Quality over quantity.

Anderson isn't even a top 10 pacer in history.

Bumrah reaches 325 at his sub 20 average he has claims for the GOAT.
Quantity is highly underrated here it seems. Win shares and contributing to more wins makes you a more valuable player.

Bumrah already has more 5fers in away wins (7) in 32 matches compared to Anderson (3) in 76 matches.

Anderson is a great bowler mind you. He was devastating at home but away he was more often a support weapon even in away series England won which was mostly won by batting and all round bowling performances (India 2012 and Ashes 2010-11 the most obvious examples).

Similar to Ashwin in a way where away from home when he did well and India won it was mostly as part of a collective bowling effort (Aus 18-19 and Aus 20-21) rather than running through a team single-handedly like he (and Anderson) used to do at home.

Mind you, Bumrah is solid at home too (England 2024 series on flat pitches an example) but because of his injury issues they don't use him as much at home (although post Ashwin retirement and NZ series whitewash I see India going back to flatter Eng 2024 series style wickets where Bumrah and Kuldeep will be the point of difference).

Hiya Paulie!!!

I've missed you! I thought something terrible must have happened to you as you stopped posting when India had their arses handed to them out here last Australian summer.

I'm so glad you're doing well, and I'm really looking forward to chatting with you again and going over the back end of the Border-Gavaskar series, which you curiously seemed to miss, for reasons which remain a mystery.

Have a wonderful day.

Why don't we pick up our chat from these posts of yours back in the B-G tour subforum?

Lol, even after all the schedule manufacturing Aus are 1-1 going to the two places they have not won against India since Sachin was an active cricketer.

A bunch of debutants smacked Aus at the MCG last time and in the SCG the Aussie attack couldn't take the wickets of a guy with a broken back and one with a broken leg lol.
Still sore after the fact that Ashwin bowled India to victory in Adelaide 2018 which set the stage for the ass-kicking that followed that series.

Also made Steve Smith look like a tailender in MCG 2020.

Also who can forget him saving a match against the Australian "attack" in SCG 2021 with a sore back.

Should stick around to collect his 3rd away BGT (6th overall. Smith has won only one. Cummins zero).
The latter was your last post in the tour subbie before you obviously took ill, presumably nauseous at India's performance. Would you like to go over the last two tests before the England series gets underway? I know you're a keen student of the game and your absence after Brisbane wouldn't have anything to do with India getting smacked.

Feel free to share your usual analytical, thoughtful and unbiased insights into the last two tests of the series.

Congratulations on winning a HOME series after losing four consecutive that too vs an Indian side in transition.

Hi Paulie! Are you well? I'm glad you've rediscovered the power of typing. Good for you.

Thanks for your gracious words, albeit about six months late. You're not a fair weather poster, are you? I mean, if you are that's great because it never rains in England in June, so you should be right for a little while.

At then end of the day it was still a HOME series. A young Indian side gave a good fight in both MCG and SCG. Next time around they will have matured more and the usual ass kicking will commence.

The truth is Aus have not won in India since 2004 while India have won twice in Australia since then (2018 and 2021).

And as far as England series goes, Aus have not won there since 2001 while Ind have won in 2007 and Eng has won in Aus in 2010-11.
