Dream onBut really, Imran should make a list of the 100 greatest test batsmen. He averaged 51 over a 10-year, 52-test period – it's just his early career as a bowler who could bat that drags his overall record down.
(Reminder, kids: not outs don't boost averages.)
How many cricketers through history have averaged 50 over a 10-year period (min. 30 tests)? Certainly less than 200. Probably more like 40. And I bet every other one of them makes Luffy's top 150.Dream on
And if you feel Gilchrist is going to be exposed up the order for being a great downhill skier, there's always Andy Flower.Atm:
Gavaskar
Hobbs
Bradman
Tendulkar
Sobers
Gilchrist
Imran
Marshall
Steyn
Murali
McGrath
Steyn/Marshall/Hadlee/Warne/etc are all interchangeable here depending on conditions and how I feel that day.
Hmm, well we do have to worry about batting, so not bad either. They can come in on my alternates list.Flower was pretty poor with the gloves, definitely not someone you back to keep to Murali of all people, could give it to Clyde Walcott or AB De Villiers if you're feeling bold and don't have Gilchrist.

so I wouldn’t put Imran in the top 20, and probably similar to the Rameez Raja, Shoaib Mohammed level. Still a very valuable bat though
A good reason why blindly looking at average isn’t the best way to judge a player. How many cricketers through history have averaged 50 over a 10-year period (min. 30 tests)? Certainly less than 200. Probably more like 40. And I bet every other one of them makes Luffy's top 150.
Mind explaining why that applies in this situation? Many dead pitches are included in this sample, but it's not like we're talking Samaraweera or Yousuf in that regard.A good reason why blindly looking at average isn’t the best way to judge a player.
Yousuf>>>>Imran as batsmanMind explaining why that applies in this situation? Many dead pitches are included in this sample, but it's not like we're talking Samaraweera or Yousuf in that regard.
I wasn't making that comparison lmao.Yousuf>>>>Imran as batsman
fair, but I wouldn’t put him above Saleem malikThink Misbah is way too low
Because looking at his stats beyond his average in that period yes, you can absolutely tell his quality is well, well below that of an average 50 averaging batsman. He scored heavily at home and in draws. Averaged 38 in that period in wins. Lot of empty runs. iirc his average in draws is 75+ during that period. 50 average is very misleading lolMind explaining why that applies in this situation? Scoring runs on flat pitches is easier but not less important than on sporting wickets. It's dull, but turning losses into draws is an immensely valuable trait.Because looking at his stats beyond his average in that period yes, you can absolutely tell his quality is well, well below that of an average 50 averaging batsman. I also won't but atleast Mohsin Khan and Wasim Raza (though his WI record is So underrated). I will have him ahead of Say Babar too.fair, but I wouldn’t put him above Saleem malik
Except that’s not what he was really doingScoring runs on flat pitches is easier but not less important than on sporting wickets. It's dull, but turning losses into draws is an immensely valuable trait.
Who cares? He's showcasing the same skills that could turn losses into draws; whether that actually happened or not isn't his fault.Except that’s not what he was really doing
From what i heard from older uncles who saw cricket in 70s and 80s was that imran was decent number 7 batsmen or at best number 6. Comparing him with yousuf is madnessYeah, no. Imran wasn't really as good as any of the main top order batsmen. He wasn't even close to MoYo for batting. That's an outrageous suggestion. He was a more solid version of Ravindra Jadeja batting wise. Which means he was no mug with the bat but also doesn't make him comparable to someone like Yousuf
