Whatever it takes!!!
Yeah him and that last over hitting by Hardik was the difference in the end. Good game, worthy of being an eliminator.

I guess Karun is kind of playing himself into the 11 with this knock.

Jaiswal
Rahul
Sai Suds
Gill
Pant (wk)
Karun
NKR/Jaddu
Shardul/Kuldeep
Bumrah
Arshdeep
Siraj / Prasidh / Akashdeep

I do like the idea of Kuldeep being the lone spinner with NKR playing as the 4th seamer/allrounder. I am not sure if Jaddu can be the match winner in the second innings that we may need in case of a track that gets pretty flat or even turns by day 4/5. I also dont think England will bat that long that we will need a spinner for over rate/resting the seamer kinda purpose. But I dont love the idea of Kuldeep batting at 8. He is a decent enough #9 for tests but 8 is a little too high for him as a bat.

Or we could not play Sai Suds and go with this line up...

Jaiswal
Rahul
Karun
Gill (c)
Pant (vc) (wk)
NKR
Jaddu
Shardul
Kuldeep
Bumrah
Prasidh / Siraj / Arshdeep / Akashdeep

I like the balance that side has and it also enables 2 spinners - one defensive finger spinner and one attack wrist spinner.

You can't have only two fast bowlers though in England. This just feels like picking to draw games through batting, while forcing Bumrah to do everything.

I'd have either Reddy or a 6th batter, Jaddu and one of Shardul, Kuldeep or a 4th fast bowler. Bumrah/Prasidh/Siraj would start.

I don't really think we need 2 spinners

Honestly, you could, given Kuldeep's returns in India vs England's approach. Only for a 4th pacer though.

Well, there is a reason why I said the first 11 is the more likely one to play.

That said, I do think Shardul can be fine as a 3rd seamer which is what he will be in the second 11 I posted. And NKR is fine as a 4th seamer and 6th bowler.

I'd have it be between Shardul/Kuldeep/4th pacer and pick the two batters coming in between Jurel/Nair/Sai/Easwaran/NKR. NKR as 4th bowler was a big reason as to why India couldn't pick wickets or contain runs once Bumrah stopped bowling since the spin options weren't as effective. He's a big part with regards to Bumrah's injury and I don't want Gambhir to try his luck again now.

Siraj/Prasidh should be starting though. Not sure why Arshdeep should be getting a start over both of them.

Well, I dont think Gill will be as dumb and clueless as Rohit as a captain on the field.

Also, I dont see India playing 2 spinners unless the track absolutely calls for it. In Australia we were playing NKR as our 5th bowler IIRC. In the 11 I posted, he would be the 6th bowler. And I actually think his bowling would be better and more useful in England than in Australia.

NKR was our 5th bowler yes, but Jaddu/Ash/Washi were largely ineffective and when NKR bowled he too was as ineffective, and I don't see how things would've changed in order for him to be a decent 4th option. Hence we ended up with 3 effective bowlers overall. Just pick 4 fast bowlers + a spin option and live with the long tail for a better chance to win. It's not like they're going to prepare green tracks with lots of seam for all the Tests, given the Bazball lineup.

Depends. Was Washy really 6th in Australia?? Anyways, think Reddy is much more suitable for English conditions than Australian ones. I also find it really harsh to blame Reddy for Bumrah's breakdown, when the one who truly let him down was Akashdeep/Rana and Jadeja imo.

Akash Deep was unlucky, Rana was in a similar position to Reddy but he is the better bowling prospect and picked to bowl (and contributed more) and the spinners were largely ineffective anyway. It's why I proposed the 4 pacers attack.

Been making loads of domestic runs the last few years, did ok in County (albeit in div 2) and did this in the Vijay Hazare trophy a few months ago.

Didn't really rate him in his first India stint, but has 100% earned a recall at this point.
I mean I know he failed in his other 6 knocks but he scored an unbeaten triple

You'd surely argue unfortunate to be dropped so soon. But playing in an era with you having a stacked middle order.

Yeah I thought India’s team selection in Australia was a mess and I hope there’s not a repeat of that here.

How good is watching even this warm up after what’s felt like months of IPL
Or just don't watch the IPL

I've yet to watch a full game ever and I'm all the better for it.

County season has been enjoyable for the last 2 months!

Lot of Indian fans are on the Durham live stream chat watching matches, which is always good to see.

Read somewhere this is hottest summer in uk since 1955 can any Englishman confirm it @mackembhoy @Molehill. If it is then we should play kuldeep ahead of jadeja and play reddy @7
Well it's not even summer yet in the UK. But I read it's the driest year we've had in the North East of England since 1929.

Edit: seems like we've had the driest Feb-April since the 50s. May has been quite changeable but largely dry.
