So early career Walters did Great, definitely a plus. But he still played one series in his first 3 years of intl Cricket. Don't think overall his longevity case is that strong really.
It wasn't in his control tho, I think he was first choice for a lot longer than Hayden was.

Can see the argument here, but was just still one Great Series. Late 90s/Early 2000s Australia were also literal nightmare of a side to break in as a batsman. Borderline crazy how few games Law, Hodge, Love, Siddons, Di Venuto, etc played. Not saying 90s Hayden was Great and his stay won't budge a bit, but I don't think I will weigh to heavy in for Walters' longevity here.

Holding down a spot in Australia's batting lineup in the late 90s and early 2000s was a huge challenge for sure. But it was still a luxury to play such a high percentage of his international cricket as a batsman with an experienced understanding of his game in a brutally unhelpful era for bowlers. This is more of a general point though than strictly in comparison to Walters.
