I'm a lot more reasonable than you are willing to admit.
You're not but keep telling yourself that. In the past week you've talked schitt about: Ambrose, Marshall, and Sobers. And b4 that Lara (i'm starting to sense a theme) but nobody is supposed to critique Sachin. You're unreasonably unreasonable.

Those are all commendable but nothing to overhype him over. I do take issue with people praising his successes as a teenager but then in the same breath using his youth as an excuse for failures at that age.
I mean, if people praise him for playing at 16 instead of staying at home despite not scoring as heavily as he would had in his mind 20s, don't really think it's contradictory.

The thing is, as a 16 year old, the expectations are not as high to begin with, as it shouldn't be. So, if you do good, you should get the praise, even if you're averaging 35 (along with some good knocks). But then, if someone says that his overall numbers take a hit for those teenage years, there's nothing contradictory, as you don't expect a 16 year old to maintain the same output as his later career.

So basically, a 16 year olds output can be very low (in regular terms), and still be impressive; doesn't change the fact that his overall numbers will take a hit for those teenage years. Mentioning both is not contradictory.

Ok. We can agree to disagree moving on....the teenage thing isn't that big of a deal for me. Except that I donot appreciate Sobers the teenager being down played if we're hyping Sachin the teen.

Anyway, the crux of my original post, again was in response to the poster who said Sobers didn't face any atg attacks. The 1955 attack was atg and Sobers was a teenager. The Sachin thing arose because a particular poster tried to down play Gary using notouts, players being old and other bs. Doesn't change the fact Gary was still a kid playing men with minor protection and with unlimited bouncers.

Without getting involved into the debate on whether Sobers played any ATGs (spoilers: he did. Slammed Quite a few.) or whether he did Great vs them than Tendulkar at 19 (spoilers again: absolutely did); 16 and 19 isn't just the same imho.

Yeah, Garry was impressive. Cannot argue against that.

iirc Sobers averaged 40 during his debut series at 17 against Trueman, Laker, Lock and Wardle

They are. 19/16=1.1875=1

Something tells me that you agree.

16 and *18 are not you are correct. Sobers was 18 when he played Lindy and co. But you are correct.

Given the "context", man I love that word, I see why Subz overuses it. Anyway given the context ie wi being one down, Australia with 500 runs on the border, wi being 30/2 and WI losing their last 2 tests in Sydney, Warne's dismantling the previous test yes, it was a great innings vs a middling attack.
Mate india were 50/5 in perth when sachin rescued them to respectable 230. Scoring 100 on fastest wicket in the world for 18 year old who grow up low bounce is great achievement

If sa
we need some Indian broken jaws in June/July tbh, Carse should go for the head.
Sai sudharshan and karun nair play ahead of chokli and nohit woakes and crase would retire from test cricket. Prasidh and rana bouncers would scare the hell out of root and co
