I am not exactly sure how one defines natural talent. Is it being easy on the eye or something else?

Sachin is the most complete player I have seen.
On his best day no one can touch Brian Lara.
No one made batting look as easy as ABD.

State Regular
Pat Cummins, Hazlewood, Starc, Bumrah, Rabada and Steyn (league t20s ) ,

All the top bolwers of current
era rated ABD as the toughest batsmans to Bowl.
Not sure if any other Batsmen got similar hype from best of their era.

Obviously ABD is very good but for some reason that talent did not translate well into a great record compared to some of the ATG batsmen

“Natural talent refers to an innate or inborn aptitude or ability in a specific area, allowing someone to demonstrate some immediate skill without practice, or to gain skill rapidly with minimal practice

Given this, none of the modern day blokes qualify.

Guys like Sangakkara, Imran, Murali and Tendulkar, are talented. But they are extremely disciplined too. Their performances came with a lot of sacrifices because they were disciplined. Guys like Viv, Lara or Warne were way more talented, but never were the best exponents of discipline

Hutton was apparently supremely talented per Sutcliffe.

“Hutton has not yet received his Yorkshire cap, and he is no more than 18 years old, but I am bold enough to say that he is a certainty for a place as England’s opening batsman. He is a marvel — the discovery of a generation. At the age of 14 he was a good enough batsman to play from most county sides, and season by season since then I have watched his progress steadily … This boy will be a power in the land before many moons, and I should not be surprised to find him attracting as much attention as any batsman, including the great Don [Bradman], for his style and his polished skill must triumph."

iirc Hutton based his batsmanship on Sutcliffe

they have a master-apprentice thing going on, iirc Sutcliffe yelled at Hutton for giving a soft dismissal even tho he made a hundred and Hutton decided to never risk a soft dismissal again.

Classic Yorkshire.

Isn’t Yorkshire like the NSW of England, in terms of cricketing talent?

Yeah, they historically definitely have the highest output of talent by a good margin, Cricket in Yorkshire really always has been religion even with it's systematic faults.

Probs better suited for the ATG thread, but iirc many here think an ATG NSW XI could beat rest of Australia. Reckon the same is true for Yorkshire?

Honestly? feel like ROE (Rest of England) would win due to Hobbs and Barnes, the series would certainly be a competitive one though

I mean. You have Trueman, Verity, those 3 openers (I assume we’d play one at 3 surely..), plus Root, Rhodes and at this stage you could probably say Brook too (or Vaughan). Throw in a Hoggard and Gough (?) and a keeper and thats a pretty solid team.

Barnes probably the apex. He pretty much is the difference maker I think.

....I did not think about that, but going with that

1. Sutcliffe
2. Boycott
3. Hutton (C)
4. Root
5. Brook [RISKY]
6. Leyland
7. Bairstow (David) (wk)
8. Rhodes
9. Verity
10. Trueman
11. Gough

ROE XI

1. Hobbs
2. Gooch
3. Hammond
4. Compton
5. Barrington
6. May
7. Knott (WK)
8. Botham
9. Anderson
10. Underwood
11. Barnes

Should be...a very competitive series tbh

Personally I do it for my normal English ATG side, I also just found a video of Boycott selecting his ATG Yorkshire side, he did the same with himself and Sutcliffe opening and Hutton at 3.

Also made a post in the ATG thread with my teams.
