Averaged 28 in England, was one of our 3 main equally good bowlers in 2020 BGT (and a great performance in 2018), with a 5 WPM in completely dead for spin pitches; Lyon averages the same on those games but with 6 less wickets
Warner averages 63 in South Africa with 3 hundreds, brutally murdered Steyn at home, next.

And England were so happy he played there. Warner is a legit great in SA, just way below Test standard almost everywhere else.

Yeah

Warner is basically Ashwin, great at home, some good work away (SA for Warner, Some Aus games for Ashwin) and glazed by his fans to kingdom come.

nah, Weekes managed an amazing tour of England when healthy, that's already beyond Ashwin's capabilities

More like Walcott really. Ashwin also obliterated WI, 28 avg in England, 33 in NZ, Great in SL against a great batting side..... He only was truly poor in SA, but that's also largely for the pitches there.

You got Ashwin over Compton huh? don't know what to say to this, Weekes had a great tour of England when healthy, Walcott just didn't get the opportunities, don't see how Ashwin is comparable to them.

Bolo.

International Captain
To end the note on, everyone preaching about Ashwin's home record, better come out and vote Warner as an elite ATVG Batsmen at the very least whenever there's a Warner thread next time, all I'm saying.
To be more than a bit reductive on averages:
Warner averages 33 away. What do you think the equivalent away average for a spinner is?

Look at this way, I got Jimmy over Compton and Walcott; and think he and Ashwin are equal as bowlers. And then Ashwin averages 26 with the bat. In short, I got him over Dravid.

Oh, then Nah, Compton is better than Jimmy, Jimmy is better than Ashwin. If we're just going by numbers and not acknowledging the context of Walcott's tours, than Clarke is above Walcott

I ain't. But that's applicable to Ash as well. He got a really treacherous deal away, especially in SA and to an extent Australia (though team management is also to blame there)

pitches =/= playing with injuries, I rate Walcott on two back to back ATG serieses against ATG lineups, very high reputation (universally above Worrell) and an insane peak, but if we're going by just numbers, he's Warner level

Averaged 44.5 after playing a disproportionate amount of his games (more than half) on home pitches that were by and large very flat. The true people who get boosts to ATG status under that very reasonable doctrine are Jayawardene, MoYo, Compton, Chanderpaul, etc.
I wouldn’t call 58-54 disproportionate.

Who is glazing Warner? He might be the least glazed player here.
