Ambrose barely played outside Aus, Eng & WI.
Never played in Ind.
1 Tests in SL.
2 Tests in NZ.
4 Tests in SA.
5 Tests in Pak.

Just like a spinner’s greatness is tested outside Asia, a fast bowler’s greatness in tested in Asian pitches and Sir Curtly didn’t play much here
He played the best teams of his era though.

Australia was it then and England he played most often.

Who else in that era was dominant in or vs Australia?

Donald, Wasim, all of them famously struggled, it wasn't something to just throw under the cover of helpful conditions.

Ambrose was great against the best team he played. The issue is doesn’t he have the most versatile record among all time great pacers.

Wasim was perfectly good vs Australia. Donald struggled.

Ambrose is a questionmark for the SC.

Lillee is nowhere near anything Ambrose was in Australia.
Lillee has an entire career there taking 5 WPM. What more can you expect? Ambrose doesn't even take 4WPM at home. It's not comparable.

He was better than Ambrose in England too and NZ. The only thing Ambrose has over Lillee is literally one quality series in 1990 on Pak in their most pace friendly wickets ever.

Average less than 23 maybe a good starting point?? Dude, you can't seriously think Lillee was better in Australia?
Lillee wasn't better than Ambrose in England and NZ were close to Minnows. And he sucked donkey balls in Asia.

Ah Yes, extremely important to mention that! otherwise I thought it was a comparison of Gavaskar's bedser-esque masterful cutters and swing bowling, with Ambrose's Weekes-esque aggressive cutting, hooking and pulling.

I think it was @Prince EWS who once opined that the reason he didn't rate Lillee as highly had less to do with where he didn't play, but rather his numbers considering where he did.

The other ATG bowlers of the era paled in comparison to how Ambrose performed in Australia, yet managed well enough in the SC.
Pre '95 Ambrose would have been fine.
