I actually thought about this myself. People see it as an insult rating Kallis over Sachin as a cricketer but in the same breathe they're arguing for Kapil. Agree with everything you wrote.
Honestly it depends on the side.

I am selecting Kallis over Tendulkar if it's 2000s India.

If it's 2000s England, I am selecting Tendulkar.

as far as making sides go, from the top three sides in history, I think Walsh would make The Invincibles and Waugh's Australia while Kapil would make the mighty Windies side, especially the late 80s one.

I don't understand what you're even trying to hypothesize here.

And no, in no way or form has Kapil ever been more valuable than Hobbs or Tendulkar. As stated above he isn't even close to being as valuable as Walsh.

This is what happens when we take these ridiculous all rounder accumulative arguments go too far.

At the end of the day, you're as valuable as your primary skill.
What I'm hypothesising should be quite clear:

Kyear, the thing about lower-order batting is that it's so easy. You put Kapil Dev in, replace an average bowler, and you get 20 more runs per innings (and improved the same bowling).

If the bar for a test-standard batsman is 40 runs per innings, then to equal the improvement that Kapil's batting gives to a team you need to create the second best batsman of all time. That's rather difficult, in comparison.
What do you disagree with about this post?

Kapil makes the 2000s Aussie one too in place of Brett Lee.

I was commenting on if they want to take Walsh or Kapil in those scenarios
In general, if you are a team with better pace bowling resources and a bit lean on middle lower order batting, you would prefer Kapil.

Current SA might take Kapil.

But if you're a regular team in history or short on class bowling Walsh is the way to go. Also, if you're good batting but short on a 5th bowling option you go Kallis over Sachin. No??

Exactly. Depends on the team. So we can't make blanket comments on Kapil vs Walsh as some would like us too.

I am assuming this is the team. Kapil can fit right in.
Hayden.
Langer.
Ponting.
Waugh.
Waugh.
KAPIL
Gilchrist.
Warne.
Lee.
Gillespie.
McGrath.

Invincibles is pretty interesting too:

Barnes
Morris
Don
Hassett
Harvey
Miller
Kapil
Tallon+
Lindwall
Johnson
Johnston

I think this works Exceptionally well. But don't think Kapil at 6 in 2000s Australia is that good of an idea honestly.

I wouldn't drop Damien for Dev. That's too much of a drop off batting wise. Maybe put him in for Lee. That's it.
I basically agreed. If Watson was there, maybe the duo for Martyn (or more practical, Lehmann) and Lee. But elsewise, Lee is more likely.
