But peer ratings are equally important in measuring greatness of a playerA huge reason I don't give two ****s about peer ratings.
I disagree. They aren't important for measuring quality, except for Trumper. But peer ratings are equally important in measuring greatness of a player
This despite of smith having atg series vs him and root failing on similar tracksiirc Ashwin also rated Root and Smith together
tbf both those guys did similar things, Smith had one huge series but Root has constantly made runs whenever purely focused on batting. This despite of smith having atg series vs him and root failing on similar tracks
@Johan seems like ashwin rates root ahead of smithhttps://www.indiatvnews.com/sports/...oughest-batter-he-bowled-to-2025-01-30-973814 ashwin rated joe root has toughest batsmen he bowled to
Root actually made runs against bumrah in 2021 series while smith struggled to just survive vs him. Ofcourse root struggled in 24 series but not as much as smithtbf both those guys did similar things, Smith had one huge series but Root has constantly made runs whenever purely focused on batting.
I do feel like Ashwin goes by performance against India though, and both Root and Smith average 58 against India
Nowhere I denied that Imran was quick enough in 80s. I pointed out the exaggeration that's brought in whenever Viv is compared with any other batsman. Viv's achievements are made to look bigger than they actually are and the opponent player's achievements get dwarfed since they "didn't play in that era".Imran was quick between 79- 82 this was confirmed by wisden. Now does wisden also spend time on p****** **** fourm. Ok bro viv was average vs spin but can confidently say smith isnt average vs good fast bowling
it's the opposite, Viv's achievements get underplayed because his average isn't high enough and the opponent's caveats that would be mentioned when compared with someone else (IE, Sobers) are not brought up enoughNowhere I denied that Imran was quick enough in 80s. Not saying its underrated but would take his own 2017 bgt over itSmiths peak was in 2014-2019 where he didn’t play against Bumrah. He would have been fine against him then.
His 2019 ashes is being a bit underrated here. Archer and Broad were bowling at a really high level in tough conditions.
You have joined CW recently. Dig out any Viv thread from the 2000s or 2010s, and it's full of being real macho without any helmet, hooking fast bowlers for fun while chewing gum and what notit's the opposite, Viv's achievements get underplayed because his average isn't high enough and the opponent's caveats that would be mentioned when compared with someone else (IE, Sobers) are not brought up enough
Yeah sure, doesn't change the fact in a year he'd be losing threads to Root and Sangakkara, forget Smith. Overall, Smith's side is almost as dismissive of arguments against Smith as any fanbase possibly could be.You have joined CW recently. Viv was great batsmen who inspired cricketers across world. Even great sachin idolized viv. Viv might not have or have not been batsmen he was talked upon but he was a cricketer whose impact on majority of fans, players and pundits is unmatched except for bradmanNowhere I denied that Imran was quick enough in 80s. OK, by that logic no batsman will ever match or better Viv since they will not be able to "inspire cricketers across the world" or have an "impact on fans, players and pundits"Viv was great batsmen who inspired cricketers across world. Yeah it's funny how Smith became more overrated in 15 years than Viv managed in 50Smith's base is equally rabid
