Eh, I really don't think so. Both were pretty useless in Asia and Australia (were Philander did much better) and Vernon was leagues above at home.

There were series or 2 in Aus where Broad did a fair bit better than what Vern did in his 5 Tests there.

Skillfully speaking, Broad has to be one of the most overrated bowlers we've ever seen. Couldn't even keep the seam upright and the the ball almost always wobbled all the way through towards the batter.

But you have to appreciate his luck to be born in England.
