The point was that his record in Sl doesn’t mean much. Analysis by checklist isn’t really useful unless it indicates a flaw in a players game. He’s a great player of spin.

I'd agree re his record in SL if he had a good record in India. Some redemption in UAE.

In all seriousness, Joe Root is better cricketer than both. He is an ATG test cricketer and I put him only below Steve Smith among the batters to have debuted in this millenium in test cricket.

Can go either way between Root and Sanga. Probably Root by a whisker given he plays in tougher batting conditions at home and hardly plays minnows compared to Sangakkara.

Root is basically an ABD/Chanderpaul level bat but is getting overrated because he hasn’t declined yet. Not even close to guys like Sanga/Kallis/Dravid in tests although he’s better than them in white ball
