Did fine on the tour to SA during his peak I think. Only 3 innings and ran out of partners in one. It’s just India and England where he’s really struggled.
Eh fine, I guess? 77 in one innings and 7 in the other two. Plus ya know people were counting from 2013 and he didn’t set the world on fire in that series either.

I mean if we’re discounting his early poor showings away you should discount his early good showings away too.
The point was that his record in Sl doesn’t mean much. Analysis by checklist isn’t really useful unless it indicates a flaw in a players game. He’s a great player of spin.

I'd agree re his record in SL if he had a good record in India. Some redemption in UAE.

I am gonna flip the coin and give the answer.

In all seriousness, Joe Root is better cricketer than both. He is an ATG test cricketer and I put him only below Steve Smith among the batters to have debuted in this millenium in test cricket.

This is just mine, so not unilaterally deciding anything

Bradman

Tendulkar / Sobers / Hobbs
Richards
Smith
Lara

Hutton
Gavaskar
Hammond
Chappell
Ponting
Kallis
Pollock
Headley

That's how my top 15 is more of less ranked. The aforementioned are all on that next tier.

Probably forgetting someone but off the top of my head

Sanga is definitely in the same tier as Ponting and Kallis
