KP was a special, turn the game sort of bat, which to me makes him better than his simple era adjusted average might suggest.

Amla is a clear winner here but agree that Pietersen wouldn't suffer a major drop-off in a tough batting era like some contemporaries. Have a theory that Pujara for instance would average more than him on flat tracks, but Pietersen will beat him in an era sweltering in class bowlers.

Pietersen would suffer a drop off if he'd had a full career instead of just 8 years in his prime.

His average overstates how good he was. Not even close to Amla.

Oh yeah Amla is way better. Not denying that. It's no comparison. If Pietersen loses say three runs with a conventional career length, I don't think he would lose as many from that in the 90s for instance as some contemporaries might.
