McGrath won 3 World Cups and was a main contributor in all 3 wins ..

How? Murali has a similar record in the WCs and he played for a significantly weaker team.
We weren't a weak team back then , during Murali's era we won 1 World Cup and made 2 World Cup finals out of 5 tournaments.

Murali got his wickets because he was talented, not because of the team he was playing for ..
Nobody can score your runs or take your wickets for you as a batsman or bowler, you earn it through your skills.

Australia were strong because they had players like McGrath, not the other way around.
Australia won 3 World Cups , and McGrath's 71 wickets @18 was a major contribution to that.

In World Cups that Australia won with Mcgrath, these were his figures in each successful campaign:

1999 - 18 wickets @ 20.39

2003 - 21 wickets @ 14.76

2007 - 26 wickets @ 13.76

Three World Cup-tournament winning performances across 3 different continents ..
Consistency,Quantity,Quality,Variety.

I never said Sril Lanka was a weak team. But compared to McGrath's Australia it was a significantly weaker team. SL 3-4 great players while that Australia had 9-10 great players. In that Australian team even players like Hogg and Tait who only became part of the team because of injuries or suspension were among the best performers in the WC.

This only proves my point.

You do know that he wasn't even the highest wicket taker for Australia in 99 and 03?

Nobody would disagree that Sri Lanka is a weaker team than Australia, but we aren't comparing teams, we are comparing World Class players who improved their teams immensely.

Yes I'm aware of that, so what exactly does that prove? 18 wickets and 21 wickets is not a small number of wickets to take ..In fact in 1999 , Australia's leading wicket taker Warne took only 2 wickets more than McGrath, and in 2003 Brett Lee only took 1 wicket more than McGrath. Just because McGrath didn't take the most wickets in two of Australia's World Cup wins doesn't mean he didn't have great world cup performance in those tournaments.Besides nobody has taken more wickets than McGrath in World Cups to add to his 3 World Cup wins , that shows he was consistent and successful.

Starc has a way better record than McGrath in World Cups and that too in a far better bowling era.

Starc would have also done that if he was part of that team instead of Mcgrath.
He would be playing with Mcgrath, there is no way he would have played instead of Mcgrath in Tests or ODI cricket. Besides would have , could have , should have, SA should have reached atleast a final with the talent they had but they didn't.

Maybe he went a long way to making them a significantly better team.

McGrath routinely got the big poles, usually after calling them out, too. Got Lara in 99, Tendulkar in 03. Guy was as great as anyone who’s ever done it. Tendulkar was superb but the difference between them here is really summed up by the first over of India’s innings in the 03 WC final.

Mcgrath was just unfairly good. He wasn’t as fast as Marshall or Akhtar, Couldn’t move the ball at will like Akram. But he always got his man. And was the best World Cup performer I’ve seen and it’s not all that close

Wow getting Tendulkar wicket in the final. Must be really big task. Surely nobody else has done that. He always had a knack for going big at big moments.

He was being sent to cleaners by Sehwag. It was actually Lee who was bowled well in the final and throughout the WC.

Starc bowled to a far superior Indian batting lineup in 2015 and returned with way better figures.
