I wish KP played under a more forgiving and flexible regime and environment. Like the current one for instance. Obviously not the most endearing person and didn't help himself at times but England really did make a fine mess of managing him.

He should never have been dropped after that last Ashes. Blunder.

Disagree. You can get away with being a really negative influence on the dressing room if you're making proper runs. Making slightly more runs than the rest of the failing team while feuding with a bunch of teammates is a totally different thing.

But I've hashed this one out enough over the years, lol.

That's up to the management to get him in line. It's their failure if they can't reign him in. Similar with Inzi's failure to get the best out of Shoaib.

Watched the KP documentary again the other night, England failed him. Mostly because he was born one era too soon. I think the current setup would be far more accepting towards the IPL/T20 comp gigs which is where the fallout and division began.

Furthermore, there would also be a warmer and more consistent stance on his creative aggression; from both the media and coaches etc. I think some traditionalists fail to see their own hypocrisy when they call Pietersen a genius after hitting a good ball for six, only to lambast him when he plays round one instead.

The environment even under Silverwood would have been more flexible and forgiving. The setup and culture for him today though would be literal dreamland by comparison. We've even gone back to flat pitches at home! What could have been....

For sure, he didn't help himself. Textgate is indefensible. He fell out with his first county side etc. He isn't the easiest personality. But the environment today (or even any post-09-13 regime in fact) would have made for a happier KP.

There shouldn't be too much regret as he did still have a great and illustrious career. It just could have been a longer and healthier story. Injuries admittedly didn't help also.

Putting KP's severe negative influence down to him being poorly managed is just victim blaming.
KP was managed poorly, KP did not help himself and was indefensible once or twice, KP would be managed a lot better under any regime that followed.

Those things can be simultaneously true.

Yeah well, I daresay Harold Shipman could have been managed better as well. C'est la vie.
