Best WC performance?

Starc took 22 wickets @10 in 2015. Economy of 3.5. Big wicket of BMac in the final.

Yuvraj averaged 90 with the bat and took 15 wickets at 25 with the ball…while he had cancer.

Didn’t watch de Silva but people always speak very highly of his performance.

Don't forget De Silva in the semifinal. That 66 was essential to counterattack after losing early wickets. In terms of strokeplay, top drawer innings.

Yeah I rate his 96 WC the best.

Honourable mention to Tendulkar (2003 WC) who scored 208 more runs than 2nd highest run scorer .
Tendulkar 673 runs
Ganguly 465 runs
Ponting 415 runs

Pretty much impossible to pick one. Several players have had great World Cups.

Yea this is really tough. De Silva and Klusener are big front runners, but Klusener can’t take it for obvious reasons. Shoaib had a great one too but thankfully Bangladesh suck.
Sachin, Starc, McGrath for their respective disciplines.

Bottled it in the one game that mattered
I know it’s an in-joke and all and you’ll find quite a few people who rate Gambhir’s 2011 innings very highly but no one who thinks Gambhir was even in the same stratosphere as Sachin as a bat. I think the “he bottled it” argument would work better if it was more like Kohli where he’s generally failed to show up in other knockout games too.

Klusener, Jayasuriya/de Silva, Yuvraj the best all round WCs, Sachin 03 for batting and Starc in 2015 for bowling.

Crowe's 92 WC also somewhat overlooked. 456 runs , avg 114 (bit inflated by 5 not outs), and a SR of 90 when most other batsmen were in the 60s and 70s.

Funnily enough, Jayasuria was man of the series for De Silva's cup.
That was always an odd decision as he did nothing in the tough games. Despite the legend, SL won the 1996 WC despite their openers, not because of them.

Jayasuria had a great knock in the quarterfinal and 3 key wickets in the semifinal.
I still maintain that SL would have easily chased down England's sub-par score against England's sub-par attack in the quarter final without Jayasuria's knock. Fair enough about the semi-final wickets being important, but I was focusing on the batting in my previous post.

Actually rate Tendulkar’s performance in 96 WC as even better. Bloke was Ind’s best player in all matches(except vs Zim), and single handedly nearly took Ind to the Sfs.

Crucial 43 vs Eng in 2013 Champions Trophy final. 58 vs SL in 2013 Champions Trophy SF and 96 vs Ban in 2017 Champions Trophy SF(granted these were easy chases). Stitched an important partnership with Gambhir in the 2011 WC final. And we all know how he fares in the t20 WC knockouts.
Granted he was a no show in 2015 and 2019 SF and 2017 SF, but doesn’t mean he generally fails or is a choker. Amongst who are ranked as 5 or 6 best ODI batsmen, only Viv was a consistent performer in knockouts.
