Playing in Perth makes Aus monies, that unless they where going to give some additional monies to CSA would only have helped one party. Aus was trying to both have and eat the cake. And probably legally could not even be done, because any change of venue like that without the participating broadcast deals involved will cause issues. So the only way that happens is you treat this as the tour of Aus by SA, and have Aus tour SA twice in a row, which was never going to happen.

We pretend to offer something reasonable, knowing its not reasonable at all.

Whatever it takes!!!
I am sure CA had their own selfish motives to suggesting the series be played in Perth. But, I think the whole point was about broadcasting rights. Typically, from what I understand of such series, CSA will have to pay a certain fixed amount to CA for utilizing their facilities etc. but then all the revenue from the series, including the broadcast deal paybacks they can save, will go to CSA. Like I said, it could have been an option in an absolute worst case, which the current situation in RSA is not. So I guess they decided they will just play it later and keep all the money instead of parting with a part of it as hosting charges to the CA.

Crap. The abuse of Candace Warner to get at her husband and a seemingly blokey endorsement by people in SA cricket admin shows them, their fans and team up as lowlifes.

im not endorsing CSA at all, im stating lehmans team received what they gave. of course, when other teams descend to their level they're crossing the mythical australian line.

We’re shutting down cities due to a couple of cases

As if the government was ever going to recommend a tour of SA

bull****, if Australian crowds behaved 1/10th as bad as those South African crowds half of them would have been banned for life and high profile public apologies made by CA

Don't care how badly behaved you think the Australian cricket team was, it's simply not relevant

CA offered to host the tests at Perth

This board is an absolute joke
If you're referring to CSA, absolutely. If this is just a typical incomprehensible Senile Sentry "I hate Australia" post then fair enough, carry on.

No brainer to play the Test series in a place with virtually no cases than one with thousands, surely? This disease kills people, and any unecessary travelling puts lives at risk. If anything, questions should be asked as to why CSA rejected the offer more than anything the Aussie board did

Yeah there is no issue of SAs who were hoping to play a much needed home series, have to travel to Aus, quarantine there for xx weeks, live in a bio bubble which their politicians will bend according to whims and fancies, suffer the ignominy of having to clean their bathrooms and fend for themselves etc.

Not to mention they won't have control over preparation of pitches or any sort of home advantage.

Yeah CSA was wrong in not handing over things on a platter to CA who cbf to take a tour outside their comfort zones of India and UK.

I think this is key. While it's true that it was probable that the tour would've gone on without a hitch, the ramifications if it didn't could've been devastating politically/PR-wise. Especially given all the worries about the new strain coming out of South Africa.

I think CA were in a bit of a no-win situation. Stay in and you run the risk of carrying the virus back towards Australia and the public fuming (let's face it Australia have been very precious regarding the virus). Pull out and you look like *****. I think given that things are starting to reopen in South Africa and the bubble was very biosecure I think CA should've taken the risk, but I can see why CA would think otherwise.

Realistically though they should've said no ages ago if they didn't think the tour was worth it. It probably would've still had a backlash but at least it's not an awkward backflip.

The other question is would they tour India if they were in the same boat virus wise. I cannot honestly say the answer would've been no. At the very least, I think Australia would've pulled out all stops to ensure it went ahead, whereas I don't think they necessarily did here.

I love the 'my **** smells better than their **** arguments'...

I never thought this tour would go ahead, these tours to SA get cancelled, delayed and reduced so often by the big 3 in best of circumstances, that during a pandemic it was always going to be a no go. But it is the faux pretence that is irritating, at least be honest from the beginning.

Speaking as a neutral, abuse of Warner by SA crowd was unacceptable. They definitely could and should have taken a stronger stand. Not that it should have any bearing here.

Wouldn't have cancelled if it was england or india. The infection rate is currently dropping in SA. Aus only wants to play the lucrative tours...
