Whatever it takes!!!
I hate the sides that have been chosen to Australia for ODIs and T20Is. Just hate them.
T20Is -
To me, an ideal T20 side should have 6 proper bowling options (usually the bottom 6 in the batting order) and at least 2 part time options plus a keeper in the top 5.
Unfortunately, for us, we have Rohit, Rahul, Virat and Shreyas as the top 4 and the ones who are not keepers here cannot bowl. So we will have to make do with 7 bowling options and if things get really desperate, hope Shreyas or Virat have practiced enough bowling in the nets.
So the next spots for discussion are #s 5 and 6. We need players who can bat through in a crisis but are also abe to go from ball 1 for these slots and ideally they should be able to bowl too. And given the predominance of right handers in the batting line up, it would help considerably if one of these were left handed.
I would play Nitish Rana at 5 and Suryakumar Yadav at 6. Both can bowl handy offspin, are good in the field and are proper batsmen who can also get going from ball 1 if the situation dictates that They are also both excellent players of spin which is handy in this position.
Then the allrounders at 7 and 8. Hardik walks in as long as he is able to bowl as the #7. And for #8, it has been clear for a while that Washington Sundar is one of the best T20 spinners in India, so he gets that spot. Also adds another left hander to the lower middle order mix.
Then the 3 bowlers, idealy 1 of whom can bat and hit a long ball. Bhuvi, Bumrah and Chahal are the obvious choices here..
So ideally, (backups in brackets)
Rohit Sharma (Mayank Agarwal)
KL Rahul+ (Ishan Kishen)
Virat Kohli* (Manish Pandey)
Shreyas Iyer (Samson?)
Nitish Rana (Vijay Shankar?)
Surya Kumar Yadav (Ravi Jadeja?)
Hardik Pandya (Shivam Dube?)
Washington Sundar (Ravi Ashwin?)
Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Deepak Chahar)
Yuzhvendra Chahal (Varun Chakravarthy)
Jasprit Bumrah (Navdeep Saini)
