James Anderson vs Glenn McGrath - Similarities and differences

Starc is a bowler who is able to take wickets that other bowlers cannot.
this is a very generous assessment of sri lankan batsmen
Funny how Starc's combined record against England is markedly better than Anderson's. Anderson doesn't even average under 30 against Australia in England. And I really don't rate Starc.

Of course Flem, if you're taking the piss feel free to abuse me. But i gotta feeling not.
for all of the abuse anderson gets, starc can't even average less than 30 in england, a place i hear is the land of the swing bowling doom clouds

and i really feel awful posting on the side of the most defensive fans of one bowler on this forum. i am betraying core values going in to bat for an englishman. afaic you lot can all go do one while i have a sad masty to neil wagner short ball wickets

99% of visitors to Jimmy's stats page on cricinfo are Australians trying to ferret out any stats which prove his brilliance is otherwise. You have to applaud their perseverance.

Said Sri Lankan batsmen good enough to whitewash Australia?

If that and the New Zealand series were the norm for Starc he'd arguably be the best bowler in the world. It's not though.

morgie be sensible here, if the james anderson-lite tim southee can average something silly against them when they had sanga, dilshan and mahela in there then starc is expected to be useful against a pack of sangakara-less n00bs given his supposed superiority over the rest of the non-australian world

i think it's time we all just accepted that the role of the australian cricket team is to break indian and english hearts (a noble cause) and to remind NZ that our sportsmen and women are mortal and not invincible, which would be an easy mistake to make

This would only be relevant if they were bowling to the same batsmen.

Plenty of visiting swing bowlers battle in England tbf. Dukes + conditions makes for a big adjustment.

No you didn't, you said Gillespie and FIintoff were similar. That doesn't support what you were saying at all.

Of course someone with a higher wpm and more 5fors is going to be a better bowler if they are clearly a better bowler with a much better average, ie. McGrath v Gillespie/Flintoff
Point originally relates to Anderson, who has led the England attack for longer than Gillespie's career. Gillespie has better averages in certain places but this often happens with support bowlers. And, when given the opportunity to lead, Gillespie's figures blew out because leading really is a tougher gig. Skipper can't take you out of the attack and go back to the bankers because you are the banker. So I give a bloke like Anderson a bit of leeway and a * next to a lot of Gillespie's record, both in Tests and at FC level, even outside of England. Gillespie just had it easier, plain and simple.

I think CW's Australia fans may have surpassed Indian cricket fans in being one-eyed and having extremely dumb opinions and thinking their players fart out rainbows whenever they play. Cummins better than Anderson, Gillespie as good as Walsh, Starc better than Rabada, all utterly ludicrous opinions which deserve to be laughed at. You guys ****ing suck and so do your opinions. You're as embarassing as any of the Indian fans you make fun off. Why this stupidity is tolerated is beyond me.

Just stfu. No one cares about Australia. Your players are overrated cheats. **** off.
I'll tolerate any of this except the part I bolded. That's just offensive. The moronic parochialism of Indian fans on social media is, and always will be, unmatched.

Speaking of ''obligatory crazy Indian fans'' they are pelting the poor chaps at Guerrilla Cricket with abuse as I speak over some perceived slight/'ignorance' concerning the Indian national anthem!

I think it's fair to say Anderson would not have played as many tests if he was Australian. Given our reluctance too play anyone who bowls slower than 140, he may have had a very short international career.

Get away!! You'd have been screaming for a Jimmy when you were bowling plodders like Michael Beer, Hilfenhaus and Doug Bollinger?

If Anderson was Australian his career would have gone completely differently, and probably a lot less prominently. The fact is, he's primarily a swing bowler, and those are not a strong feature in Australian cricket due to the conditions and ball.

You are presupposing Australia doesn't produce swing bowlers. Ever heard of Terry Alderman and Bob Massey?

Alderman was most effective in England and against England and not so much against any other side and Massie's career lasted all of six tests.
