AB not a fan of ducks

AB Devilliers has after the first innings of the current South Africa vs Windies match, gone to the crease 59 times in Test Cricket without making a duck.

He is now in second place all time just overtaking Clive Lloyd.

He needs another 17 more innings to break the record from...

None other then Aravinda De Silva.

Can he break the record?

Below is the list of players (only players who have made a duck are on the list).

He also scored something like 30 consecutive double-figure innings in the ODI middle-order or summat.

He has a penchant for trivial irregularly long sequences.

The list is pretty interesting, just have to point out that the record is the most innings before your first duck, players have gone longer between ducks.

Alan Davidson is in 4th and Geraint Jones is in 5th spot!!

Other current players doing well are

Yasir Hameed and Michael Clarke 45, MIchael Hussey 31 and James Anderson 30 (17 N.O).

Knew about Geraint, it was something of a well-publicised irony. Truly astonished about Anderson.

Yasir and Davo are something of a surprise too.

Clarke and Hussey obviously less so, but still quite an achievement.

Pretty interesting names there good stuff from AB to go on for this long without getting out for a duck but franklly speaking i don't think any decent test batsman should get out for a duck unless you don't get an unplayable delivery or you get out in a unlucky fashion, otherwise any batsman should be able to atleast get a single for himself in every innings he plays.

Serious lol @ Anderson probably he deserves a promotion in the batting order!

Yeah, but him averaging what he is at the present moment says enough of his batting considering that he hasn't scored a duck - he scores too frequently in single figures.

Indeed. Quite a poor Test batsman really, could do with some time back in the FC arena. Unable to push on with the starts he gets and turn them into centuries.

Add to the fact/stats his run buffet in the Windies back in 04. But as I said for those in the Bravo thrad who said he should go back to FC cricket, SA don't really have batsmen to push AB out. Actually its easy to name names, but there are factors holding certain people out.

Unfortunately there does appear to be some politics with regards to South Africa. There are several batsmen who should be contenders for the Test side. Neil McKenzie, JP Duminy, Martin van Jaarsveld, Boeta Dippenaar and Andrew Puttick are all contenders. Not to mention Vernan Philander and possibly Albie Morkel as potential all-rounders since the selectors seem content to leave out Shaun Pollock.

LOFL at mentioning a guy like Philander for an allrounder spot instead of picking De Villiers.

Didn't Anderson average something like 30 after about 7 tests because he'd only been dismissed once?

Looks like Michael Clarkes' goal in the cricket today was to get off the duck.

He didn't think past that..
