could the canberra comets play in the NZ domestic competition

There are 19 New Zealanders in the New Zealand Warriors 2008 squad and six Australians. They also finished 4th in the ladder for the 2007squad as well. As for the A - League, they are 6th, ahead of last season's premiers Melbourne Victory (on goal difference) and Perth Glory.

I'm all open to new ideas but the idea that a team from a country with a very strong domestic competition (Aust) might enter a pretty weak country's competition (NZ) is ridiculous.

Its a surprise more aussies don't play in new zealand the last i remember was robert smith from NSW,a leggie.

While he was a nice guy, he wasn't really good enough to crack a pretty awful Otago Volts team at the time.

Wat about if they produced a two division system using all the new zealand and aussie team and use a promotion relegation where the last placed team in div 1 is replaced by the first placed team in div 2 and the second last team in div 1 plays off against the second placed team in div 2. Could start off as div 1 being the current aussie teams and div 2 being the current nz teams. Although this doesnt include to comets atm, if one more team could be found such as maybe a pacific island team (yes they do have some decent cricketers apparently)then they could find space for the comets and this other team and create wat could be a competitive 12 or 14 team league

Unless Division 1 played the div 2 teams then there would be no way the div 2 teams would catch up simply because they play opposition at their level, not a higher level. You see it in the NPC, the div 2 teams very rarely go up to div 1.
