Buy back you mean, both Shane and Ben are Queenslanders.

Also Voges is the captain of WA, once again shows he is a decent bat but useless captain.

I understand WA were frustrated by Dan Marsh's refusal to declare 250 runs behind and decided to shut the game down to a joke. I also believe JL was the one who made the offer despite Voges been captain.

However regardless of their annoyance their personal attitude has been bad for Cricket and ridiculously cost WA any chance, regardless that is was limited, of them gaining full points and been close to Victoria and WA at the top of the table.

I think it was due to the fact that Tassie ambled along at just three runs per over in their first innings and made no effort to make a game of it. Plus, as I understand it, there's a bit of a feeling that Tasmania win too many games at Bellerive as a result of generous declarations which see them chasing gettable targets on the last day on the most benign pitch in Australia.

oh yes, my mistake Voges is captain

interesting, after Maher and Katich...this has been another case of captains being frustrated and pretty much showing it through there declerations

Historically, Tassie captains have reserved the right to then moan to the media about how visiting sides don't give the game a fair go. If it wasn't for sporting declarations, there'd never be results at Bellerive.

Seriously, that certainly used to be the case. Not sure if it is any more because Tassie have the guns to win at home, certainly last year they did anyway. Just had a quick look at last year's Bellerive Oval games and it makes for interesting reading;

vs SA; SA declared and Tas went for the runs and weren't too far away in the end but pulled the plug when they lost too many wickets

http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/australia/engine/match/251609.html

vs WA; narrow loss after batting first;

http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/australia/engine/match/251612.html

vs QLD; good win after a big first-innings total and making them follow-on

http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/australia/engine/match/251614.html

vs Vic; good win batting last again

http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/australia/engine/match/251621.html

vs NSW; good win batting last again having made NSW follow-on

http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/australia/engine/match/251625.html

vs NSW Pura Cup final; again, good win on the back of a good first-innings total but great batting in the second;

http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/australia/engine/match/251628.html

So yeah, I don't know if the perception meets with reality any more. Those wins were done without the benefit of declarations. Just good solid batting with excellent bowling from Hilfy and his supports.

Steve smith to make his debut,he can take casson's place anytime.maybe he won't go to england then.
Tassies'; side i9s crap whats worse is they can't decide if they want the extra batsmen or bowler,felt kregja should not of been dropped tasmania lost balance in the attack.

clingeffer dropped would say its the end of his career now,paine in,i guess clingeffer can mentor the 2nd xl team,which would be good.
Brad drew dropped for chris duvall.
Interesting game between the vics and tassie at hobart on a dead wicket.

Smith can't bowl, outside Grade Cricket. His been useless in the 2nd XI games. O'Brien out bowled him. Should be interesting, clearly picked on potential to see if he can translate his Grade form with bat and bowl into FC cricket.

Well he obviously has potential if he's tearing up Grade cricket at such a young age. Hope he goes well.

He also did pretty well in some Second XI cricket in England earlier this year. He took 6/14 against Kent Second XI, after scoring 39 in the first innings in a one dayer.

All of the above may be true, but WA effort was more than just denying tassie the points, whatever it's motives they had long batted Tassie out of the game and still they kept on batting.

Its own attitude denied them a chance of chasing 4 more points from the match and being right up there with Vic and NSW on the table but now they are a game behind.

Ha. Came to the thread to ask if anyone new anything about him. UK passport holder I read, so hopefully he'll come over to the good guys. Leg-spinner who can bat sounds v useful, if he's any cop.

More likely he'll mature playing for a county as a non-overseas player until throwing his lot in with Oz like Symonds & Jaques did.
