I take this opportunity to say...nah nah nana..na
I hardly see how one innings proves he is up to batting there. He still has a poor average and I'm less than convinced. As I said many times during those posts, I'd have him in the side - I'd just bat him at 7 or 8. I stand by that.

Actually no, I'll stick with my opinion. Tonight's knock showed he CAN play with brains as well as skill
He scored 30 and you're convinced? Fulton only scored 6 runs less anyway, and has a far superior record at both List A and ODI level.

I'm glad you're not a NZ selector

It was an innings that was worth more than 30 in the context of the game and the situation when he came in and now it looks like his partnership with Oram will be the winning of this game...the two guys you've been berating

I never said they couldn't play - they both clearly can. All I said was that Fulton was a better batsman than McCullum, and that Oram was not an ODI class #6. Both of them fully deserve their places in the NZ side - as was evident today. It doesn't disprove either of my points though.

Give it up Prince. You've lost the argument. Everyone but you knows that Oram is good enough to bat 6 for NZ. There's no shame in admitting you're wrong sometimes mate

How one innings proves that, given a history of failure after failure after failure at ODI level, I'll never know.

Oram is a handy allrounder. He's not an ODI #6 though.

I'm not Richard. :p

Clearly though, McCullum scoring 30 doesn't make him a better ODI batsman than Fulton...
If I was captain, already had a keeper and had players lined up, schoolyard style, and had to pick players to bat for NZ in a one-dayer I would choose McCullum. As I said, I'm glad you're not a selector because your judgement of players talent is obviously poor tbh

The fact that he averages under 20 in that position despite numerous opportunities does though, regardless of what his last score was.
Mark Twain once said "There are 3 kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics". Never has it applied more than in Jacob Oram's ODI batting average.

"Regardless of what his last score was?" Are you serious? That's called FORM ya plonker!

Yesterday morning's knock showed nothing more than that it is possible to make a half-decent score while playing absolutely abominably...

So we wait to see whether this innings proves to be the start of the next part of his career as a ODI number-six batsman...

*points to the scoreboard*. 67/5 -> Enter McCullum. NZ make 210. NZ Win by 90. Abominable alright

I'd go so far as to say next to nothing. I've rarely seen someone play so awfully and end-up with an innings that made such a difference to a game.

I'd say they won in spite, not because, of him.
