I was messing around on youtube and thought I would put together a top 10 of Australian goals in 2006 - what have I missed?

1. Nick Carle v. Adelaide United - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZ43XbTFhYc

The Adelaide players part like the red sea but I love it anyway. Carle wins the contested header, dribbles the length of the ground and finishes well past Bajic.

2. Mark Bresciano v. Bahrain - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTxNFwnkq_g

The Herald Sun dubbed it “Australia’s greatest ever goal” and while we don’t have a great deal to pick from at international level I think both Ned Zelic and Charlie Yankos amongst others would be distraught how quickly they forget. Sensationalism and Bahrain’s incompetence aside, it’s a great piece of athletic finishing.

From the relief of the first goal to the elation of the second. Tim Cahill secures his place in Australian football history with some tidy footwork and a strong finish, off the inside of one post, onto the other and into the net – a goal that will never be forgotten.

Matt McKay must have been watching a bit of Joe Cole in action at the World Cup. Skill or luck? Who cares? Great goal to break the deadlock and secure a much needed three points for Queensland.

Tim Cahill has made a habit of scoring in the Merseyside derby lately but there’s a rare Liverpool highlight for Harry Kewell as he ices the game with a stunning strike and breaks the shackles in celebration. The divine ponytail!

Bresciano scores his first goal for Palermo on debut after his summer move from Parma. Nice way to introduce himself to the Sicilian fans and a good sighter for his strike against Bahrain a month later.

A long throw, some diabolical keeping, a Kewell miskick and a goal mouth scramble results in the equalizer in Kaiserslautern. The epitome of scrappiness but I don’t think too many Australian’s cared – after 3 full games and 80 odd minutes Australia finally score at the World Cup finals through super Timmy Cahill.

Again I’ve included this one on the basis of its significance rather than being overly spectacular although there is some nice lead up play from Dwight Yorke. Steve Corica scores the first, and only, goal of the inaugural A-League grand final for champions Sydney with a neat finish past Danny Vukovic.

Simon Hill - “Josip Skoko can have a big part to play in the world cup”. How wrong could he have been? Skoko didn’t play a single minute in Germany which was a shame because he has always played well and, unlike a few others, has always made himself available for selection for the national team. Australia actually scoring from a rehearsed set piece is equally astounding!

At international level Harry is more famous for his miskicks of late, first to set up Bresciano in the playoff final against Uruguay and then Cahill for Australia’s first World Cup goal against Japan, but this goal puts Australia through to the second round and thus just sneaks into the ten.

They would want to be paying him a crazy amount of money for him to move to Italy. Viduka is semi retired from the national team because he has a young family and the travel to and from Australia was too much for him. Given that, it is difficult to see him uprooting the wife and kids and going to a completely foreign country. He would be more likely to head home to Melbourne to play in the Asian Champs league and that is saying something! He will stay at Boro I reckon and play a big part in keeping them up. The guy cops a lot of crap for his body language but he has scored a hell of a lot of crunch goals in relegation battles and cup runs for both Boro and Leeds, and is in great touch again at the moment.

Kisnorbo scored his sixth goal of the season for Leicester overnight in the FA cup against Fulham which is pretty impressive for a centre back in half a season.

Emerton, Kisnorbo, Neill, Chipperfield will hopefully be the (kamikaze) defence for the Asian Cup.

As opposed to a partly foreign one like England? ;)

I think with Viduka a lot of the grief he gets is more connected with his body rather than his body language. Even his best mate would say he tends to be on the portly side. Fans notice that kind of thing, especially when things go a little **** up.

I wish the Reds would get their act together....Romario ruined their game plans, IMHO.

Still, he brought in the crowds.
