Pickup sacked for Pro40 matchup

Left-arm orthodox spinner, Tim Phillips has been called into the Essex squad for the Pro40 match against Warwickshire, as Neil Pickup has been dropped from the team following a string of poor results. Pickup has taken 2-127 from his 22 overs in Pro40 cricket this season to date, with his only performance of note coming against Hampshire (1-28).

Essex captain Ronnie Irani insists that Pickup will still be a likely starter for the next County cricket clash, against Nottinghampshire.

Pickup slams Essex selectors

CWLand International leg spinner Neil Pickup has criticised the Essex selectors in the wake of his being dropped from the County Pro40 side for the upcoming match against Warwickshire. "I'm gutted," the bowler told our reporter in Chelmsford, "after two seasons of service I get two games' grace on early season pitches."

Left-arm spinner Tim Phillips has been called up in Pickup's place. "I wish Tim luck for his first game of the season - of course, the team is more important than any one of us, but I just don't understand what the men upstairs are trying to gain by this. I'm the first to admit when I have an off day, and there's no point pretending that I've been anywhere near my best - but I need overs, and whilst I will be spending game day at the Indoor School bowling to anyone who turns up, net work can only do so much."

Lancashire consider Richards promotion

Lancashire captain Mark Chilton has said that he may use spinner Dave Richards in a pinch-hitting role in future Pro40 games this season. Richards has been in good nick with the bat in one-day games, and Chilton suggested that he may play a role akin to Cameron White for Somerset last season

Chilton summed up the CW Test spinner and revealed a belief that he has great potential to be a hard-hitting batting allrounder in the limited overs game, where Richards has struggled to adapt. He added that Richards is a key member to the one-day squad at the present time and hinted that he may take Dominic Cork's number 3 spot in future games.

I'd just like to point out that Chilton's comments have nothing to do with him being in my brother's class at school

Haha, ouch. Fairly crushing defeat there. Afzaal and Brown on fire :-O Despite the loss, I'm pretty happy with my efforts - though I'm disappointed to have fallen in the 90s when I could've gone on and helped post a big score. Pretty poor effort in the 2nd dig too, to go out slogging like that.

C'mon Derbs, time to up the ante. Davo with a half-century too :-O Haha, gun.
