BARNES OUT
ind33d, congrats to Geg. Deserved.

I don't expect to feature in anything bar the T20I's (harbour a slight hope for captaincy, but not sure on whether Pickup would be included).

Yeah, thought Donald was ahead of me tbh
Donald really needs one full season with top/decent performances to really jump ahead of you and probably Fuller. He had some top starts to season before, but faded away.

Should be interesting to see how that bowling attack goes and if that tail can score some runs.

Love the fact that Smith pushes himself for international captaincy. Reminds me of his blatant whoring of black captaincy back in the day.

Wish the best for Greg in the second test, hopefully he can take maximum wickets on the back of Dave's replacement. CW have a potent strike force for the Dome.

Pickup 3rd in the wickets for Twenty20 domestic matches. I don't think the captaincy is even a big issue.

Would be interesting to see what side we select. A lot of ODI players have dominated in Twenty20. Dauth, Crampton and Cloete have all strugged though, so a few spots might be up for gaps in the batting department. Mork, Luff, Kearsley, Young and Smith would be the favorites to replace them one would think. Would be surprised if Cloete got dropped, so probably only two spots up for graps.

Bowling attack you would think is as per normal with Gelman and Richards maybe coming in if there was a big squad.

Fiesty Akmal revives Pakistan
2nd Test - Day 1 - Cricket Web XI vs Pakistan - PDV Dome

An attractive half-century from Kamran Akmal revived the fortunes of Pakistan late on day one, after Cricket Web XI bowled with good discipline on the opening day of the second Test. Nick Borcich was the pick of an industrious pack and was rewarded with 2 wickets from his 22 overs. A Shoaib Malik half-ton and some promising middle order starts looked likely to come to nothing when Pakistan slumped to 185-5, but the increased batting strength paid off with Faisal Iqbal and Akmal adding 101 by the close.

Salman Butt failed again at the top of the order. For the second time in the series he thrust forward his pad to Borcich, bowling around the wicket, and was sent on his way for 2. Pakistan then rebuilt through a partnership of 92 for the second, with Younis Khan looking in good form for his 48. But as he approached the milestone he called through for a tricky run and Dauth struck the stumps direct to offer the breakthrough. Captain Malik soldiered on to a compact half-century and began to forge another partnership with Mohammad Yousuf. The prolific middle order batsman looked in good touch against Thomas, with a firm straight drive for a boundary, but with just 25 to his name he met less success against Borcich and instead edged the ball to second slip.

Misbah-ul-Haq fired up into tea with some attractive counterattacking shots, and Pakistan went in on 174-3. The final session saw the Webbers swing the game back their way, at least in the early going. First Demeza got off the mark with the wicket of Malik, as the ball moved slightly off the seam to take the edge of his tentative push. Thomas then celebrated his return from the wilderness in fitting fashion. The big fast bowler used the bounce on offer and got the ball to rise at Misbah, take his glove and fly to first slip. With 5 down, Pakistan realized their predicament, primed for a collapse. As such it was a gracious response that followed Demeza's missed chance 14 runs later. He floored a simple opportunity at mid-on, and left Pickup wicketless on the day.

Having survived then on 10, Akmal grew in confidence and took the attack to the unpenetrative spin of Pickup. He raised 50 from 82 balls in the penultimate over the day and kept the Webbers at bay by stumps.

Akhtar blows away Cricket Web XI
2nd Test - Day 2 - Cricket Web XI vs Pakistan - PDV Dome

The home team lasted just 61.1 overs when they took their turn at the crease, and despite losing a wicket in their second innings, Pakistan closed the day looking in control of the match. There was action from start to finish on a thrilling day of Test cricket.

In the first over the excitement kicked off with Mørk flying to his right in his attempt to catch the ball off Faisal Iqbal's edge. It was a difficult chance and not one that cost much. Iqbal added just 1 run to his overnight 39 before he flashed at Greg Thomas to be caught smartly in the gully. The dream return got even better for Thomas less than 20 minutes later. He matched pace and accuracy - just outside offstump - to snatch the edge of Sohail Tanvir and see his end. The score of 305-7 became 306-8 at the fall of the big fish, Kamran Akmal, beaten for pace and hit right in front of middle stump for 70. From there Yasir Arafat hit a couple of boundaries and Pakistan were all out for 320 with an hour to go until lunch.

That left Cricket Web XI to face 9 overs before the break. The opening partnership could not even survive the first over. Shoaib Akhtar worked Mørk over with a couple of short balls, into the rib cage, then had him fishing outside offstump to be caught in the slips. Akhtar then should have had Mamesh out for 10, but he got away with an aerial flick to square leg, as Kaneria failed to hang on. At lunch the score was 48-1 and the intent of Mamesh was clear from the first ball of the second session. He planted his front foot and smacked a length ball from Arafat over mid-on and away for four. Mamesh raced to fifty from as many balls with a thunderous pull shot for his 6 boundary, to go along with a six over third man. And after the Webbers raced past 100, Pakistan looked to be coming undone with two easy chances put down.

Mamesh on the go

Mamesh was the second to be dropped, on 88, and he scored 14 from his next 5 balls to celebrate an 85-ball ton. Still he was not done. The next three balls from Danish Kaneria disappeared over long-on and there seemed no answer as CW XI passed 150. But just when it seemed no Paksitani bowler could defeat the man, Mamesh accounted for his own downfall by swinging over the top of a topspinner. He was bowled for 120 from 90 balls, with 14 fours and a stunning 4 sixes. Akhtar fired up with the breakthrough and enticed Pete Young into a loose pull which saw him caught at midwicket. Tanvir took over from Akhtar and pressed on with the damage. Cloete (12) was the highest profile name in a burst of 3 wickets, separated by the tea break. Rob Dauth and Nick Borcich played in a chancy partnership of 32 but it was hardly enough. Akhtar dismissed both of them and then wrapped up with the innings with Arafat taking a simple catch at mid-off. CW XI ended trailing by 61 runs at 259 all out.

Pakistan set out to withstand a mini-session against the Webber fast bowlers, and did so for the loss of Salman Butt, bowled by Borcich for 8. Again Borcich did the trick from around the wicket. Arafat batted for the second time on the day, entering as night-watchman and he fired off two cover drives to the boundary before stumps.

Centurion Younis leads Pakistan charge
2nd Test - Day 3 - Cricket Web XI vs Pakistan - PDV Dome

Younis Khan stroked 112 from 188 balls and was the key figure in an innings of 312 that set Cricket Web XI 374 to win the second Test. The Webbers applied themselves well with the ball for the second time in the match, but catching was the difference on the day. The bowlers were consistently frustrated as no less than five catches were put down by the fielders on the day. Three of those catches were to the benefit of Younis, from as early as his 17th ball, when he dropped by Butler in the slips.

Younis had 4 at the time and offered another easy chance behind the stumps on 14. But Mørk's miserable season continued with a hard-handed drop. The gloveman had a chance to make things better later in the session, but after Malik edged to his right, he could only glove the ball to first slip. There Cloete completed the dismissal and provided Mike Wilson with his first wicket of the match. Mohammad Yousuf took guard, still searching for his first big score on the tour, and he accompanied Younis to a half-century. The next chance of the day was a return catch low and to right of Demeza, and he fumbled and dropped it. It seemed it simply was not a day for the home side.

Ton up for Younis Khan

As the partnership grew, the game moved further and further out of the reach of the Webbers. Younis late cut a Pickup legbreak for two runs and thumped the air for his ton. It was a stroke of inspiration then that brought his downfall. The Webber captain summoned Thomas for the last over before tea and he bowled a fast half volley that the centurion nicked to Mørk. On this occasion the wicketkeeper held on, and at 225-4, the wicket was a lifeline for CW XI. They sought early wickets in the evening with a shiny new ball on the horizon. Yet it was the old ball that offered initial success. Yousuf was stuck on the crease and beaten for pace by Demeza, lbw for another start of 40.

Thomas followed up with the wicket of Misbah-ul-Haq in nearly identical fashion to the first innings, as Mamesh took the catch at second slip. The last of the specialist batting went to a Demeza yorker, in the form of Iqbal (14), and again Kamran Akmal was left to play a hand in revival. He took the job seriously and hit 5 fours in 32, and was the ninth wicket to fall on 311. The innings then ended a run later and set the game up for a intriguing final two days. CW XI needed 374 and started the chase with a 4-over spell on the day. Even in such a short period, Shoaib Akhtar would not be denied. He trapped Thamba Mamesh lbw for 6. Neil Pickup bravely arrived at the crease as night-watchman and amazingly survived 3 balls in completing his task.
