disagree entirely on o'brien. barring his first couple of tests he was a good 28-32 averaging bowler, and much more reliable in all conditions than doull. southee and nash open for the seconds.
You've gotta remember that Doull was genuine quality at his (albeit brief) peak. Go check out the youtube footage of his 7fer against Sachin and co in 99. Could properly swing it both ways and land it on a dime. Has a better away record than O'Brien too, and was a considerably better batsman.

A few of these questionable given I have no memories of them actually playing.
McDermott belongs in the first XI. Carried the Australian bowling attack for a decade before McGrath showed up. I can't believe I forgot Harris though. He's easily in the second XI and perhaps the first.

The best thing about me forgetting Harris is that I can drop Lee for good, the useless spud.

The drop off in quality from that second to third XI is pretty stark.
Tbf few countries would be able to field >45 average batsmen and <25 average bowlers in a third XI at all. It's really bloody hard to hit numbers like that in international cricket.

Only minor quibble is that there's no way Gillespie should get in the first XI over McDermott.

That was an error. Garner was one of the greatest of all fast bowlers. Of all the quicks I've seen he was probably the one I would least like to face, because he combined impeccable accuracy with abnormal bounce. I tend to go back and forth between him and Michael Holding as the third seamer in my all-time W.I. first team, but there's no doubt at all that he belongs among the elite.

There were a lot of unlucky seamers who could've taken Doull's spot such as Martin, Morrison, Lance Cairns, (young) James Franklin, and Ewen Chatfield. Adam Parore was also very unlucky.
