Draft is next week and still no players list.International list doesnt look promising at all.I think Kolpakkers might be included as foreigners as well because BPL have poached some big names like Buttler etc

Those are the rules imposed in SA cricket. A Kolpak player is considered the same as a foreign player.

T20 Global League draft: What to expect

Lloyd Burnard - Cape Town
Cape Town - The launch of T20 Global League has not been plain sailing for Cricket South Africa (CSA).

When plans were unveiled earlier in the year for an eight-team mega-tournament to come to South Africa, the idea was met with scepticism, based largely on the fact that there appeared limited time.

Franchise owners needed to be secured, government needed to buy in, players needed to be secured and it all needed to happen in a few months.

It seemed a big ask but now, with just three months to go, the tournament is set to take a major step towards being a functioning product when the player draft takes place in Cape Town this weekend.

There was a stumbling block when Brimstone Investment boss Mustaq Brey, who was due to take ownership of the Stellenbosch franchise, pulled out of the tournament earlier this month.

That bombshell has forced CSA to take ownership of the franchise for the time-being, but if they get through the weekend with all eight franchises having secured their squads of 18, then that will go a long way towards restoring confidence in the tournament.

Each franchise has already been allocated a marquee Proteas signing, and at a function on Saturday night the eight marquee international players will also be allocated a franchise.

That will leave space for 16 other players, and they will all be determined at Sunday's draft.

With each franchise operating within the same financial boundaries - they all have the same money to spend - there will be an opportunity for each side to have the first choice as 16 rounds of bidding take place.

CSA last week confirmed last week that five overseas-based players can be included in a squad of 18, and Kolpak players will be considered international players.

That ensures that the likes of Kyle Abbott and Rilee Rossouw, if picked, would not keep a South African-based player out of that squad.

Sport24 understands that a pool of around 90 international players will be available for recruitment while around 200 domestic players will be considered.

With the marquee players already identified, Sunday will only see a further 32 international players and 96 local players given an opportunity to play in the tournament.

So Kolpaks are in...
They can't ban them from taking part. They do have to compete with th foreigner players thought. Only 4 spots per squad ( 5 spots originally but one goes to a marquee international).

Will be interesting to see how many Kolpaks get signed up.

PE team named as Nelson Mandela Bay Stars. Mark Boucher named as coach.

Boucher to lead PE’s Nelson Mandela Bay Stars
August 23, 2017

The PE franchise of the T20 Global league will be called the Nelson Mandela Bay Stars, with Mark Boucher in charge as head coach.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Stars made international sporting history today when it was announced they would be the first team in the world to carry the name of the greatest South African of them all in the inaugural T20 Global League.

Nelson Mandela had a dream to unite a nation, and the Nelson Mandela Bay Stars have assembled a dream team to honour his name. Team owner Ajay Sethi, a Dubai-based businessman and media entrepreneur, has brought together some of the biggest names in South African cricket.

The Stars will be led by Proteas legend Boucher. His team will include former Zimbabwean bowler and current national coach of his country Heath Streak (bowling coach) and Warriors coach Malibongwe Maketa (assistant coach). They will be guided by the experienced Goolam Rajah (team director), who spent 20 years with the South African national team.

Makhaya Ntini, a proud son of the Eastern Cape who was discovered playing on the fields of Mdingi, will provide inspiration as an ambassador for the team, along with former Eastern Province legend Graeme Pollock. Ntini was the first black African to play for South Africa, with a combined 656 wickets in 274 Tests and One-Day Internationals for his country. Boucher and Ntini have walked a long path together for South Africa, both making their ODI debuts in the same match against New Zealand in 1998, with the wicketkeeper taking the catch to give Ntini his first international wicket.

The great West Indian, Clive Lloyd, who destroyed bowling with a heavy bat swung by those massive shoulders, will grace the dream team as an ambassador. Rohan Gavaskar, the former Indian cricketer and son of the great Sunil, will come on board as the team’s media director and spokesperson.

‘We wanted a team that would be founded with the same values that guided Madiba,’ said Sethi.

‘My thanks to the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality for embracing us with such generosity. For us, this team is about being a big part of the Nelson Mandela Bay community and the Eastern Cape for years to come. We want the Nelson Mandela Bay Stars to be the People’s Team.’

Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Athol Trollip said he believed the Stars had chosen a great management team to lead a side that would bear the name of Madiba.

‘When I first met Ajay and they spoke to us about his ideas, I realised we are really blessed,’ said Trollip.

‘We know the honour the name of Nelson Mandela and to have someone like Ajay wanting to invest in our city shows that this city is on the up. We look forward to the journey together.

‘This exactly what we wanted to see – our T20GL franchise owners teaming with the local municipalities and building affinity with the local communities,’ said Haroon Lorgat, CEO of Cricket South Africa.

‘We wish Ajay and the Nelson Mandela Bay Stars all the best with their T20GL campaign.’

The dream team is:
Ajay Sethi – Team Owner
Goolam Rajah – Team Director
Mark Boucher – Head Coach
Malibongwe Maketa – Assistant Coach
Heath Streak – Bowling Coach
Hendrikus Coertzen – Analyst
Evan Speechly – Physiotherapist
Makhaya Ntini – Team Ambassador
Graeme Pollock – Team Ambassador
Clive Lloyd – Team Ambassador
Rohan Gavaskar – Media Director

Hales and Afridi in the draft.

Shahid Afridi celebrates wicket of Alex Hales
Alex Hales and Shahid Afridi are amongst 90 foreign players set to participate in the inaugural T20 Global League draft to be held this weekend. The pair will join eight foreign marquee players who will also be assigned individually to the eight participating franchises on 26 and 27 August.

Those players were named in April and are Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Lasith Malinga, Brendon McCullum, Eoin Morgan, Kevin Pietersen, Kieron Pollard and Jason Roy.

Other world stars that have made the final cut are Steven Finn, Ahmed Shehzad, Ben Hilfenhaus, and Saeed Ajmal with 13 countries in total, including South Africa, represented on the list.

There is also the added intrigue of Pakistan legend and former captain Misbah-ul-Haq, who is 43, possibly coming out of retirement to play after he availed himself for the six-week long competition.

Fellow global Test legends Shivnarine Chanderpaul (West Indies) and Ian Bell (England) are also amongst the list.

Added to the cosmopolitan flavour will be Associate stars Ryan ten Doeschate (Netherlands), Kevin O’Brien (Ireland), Dawlat Zadran (Afghanistan) and Kyle Coetzer (Scotland).

Ten Kolpak players join them in the draft, amongst them being big-hitters Richard Levi, Colin Ingram and David Wiese.

The 13 countries represented are – Afghanistan, Australia, England, Hong Kong, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe.

Hales made a brilliant 116 not out off only 64 balls in a T20 International against Sri Lanka while Afridi just this past week hit a century off 42 balls for Hampshire in England’s T20 blast.

‘The Player Draft is a major step forward for the T20 Global League and the anticipation among players, coaches and owners is now clearly visible,’ commented CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat.

‘The huge interest from players around the world has been phenomenal and the calibre of players in the draft will make squad selections one for the fans to follow.

‘Fans both here and around the world will be able to join in the excitement as they see the franchises sign up some of the world’s best.

‘The four players who have made the highest individual scores in T20 franchise cricket – marquee players Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum as well as draft nominees Hamilton Masakadza and Adam Lyth – underline the quality that is going to be on display.

‘Gayle, McCullum, Shehzad, Hales, Levi and our own Proteas captain, Faf du Plessis – another marquee player – are among those who have scored T20 International centuries. The T20 Global League is now ready for take-off,’ concluded Mr. Lorgat.

A maximum of five international players [including Kolpak players] can be selected in each franchise team.

The competition will be played in November and December in eight cities across South Africa.
