ICC sim league III (decade vs decade)

jimmy101

Cricketer Of The Year
Following on (pun intended) from the ODI sim cup, I am back now with this, the third edition of the ICC sim league, which will be once again using the PC game International Cricket Captain 2013 & an in-game player editor. This time around we will be pitting the best players from each decade against one another upon that hallowed simulated turf. This will be a 14 team tournament, those teams, and the players who will be managing them, are as follows:

- 1800's - AndrewB
- 1900's & 1910's - Howe_zat
- 1920's & early 1930's - mr_mister
- late 1930's & 1940's - morgieb
- 1950's - ImpatientLime
- 1960's - Grumpy
- 1970's - The Battlers Prince
- 1980's - kingkallis
- 1990's - Shri
- 2000's - Daemon
- 2010's - Nate
- Bang/Zim/Associates - *****

- Best of the rest (pre-1970) - harsh.ag
- Best of the rest (post-1970) - honestbharani
Before we kick the tournament off, we will seed the teams into two groups of seven. Once everyone has posted their 14 man squads, I will ask everyone to rank the teams in order of strongest to weakest. The results of this vote will decide which team is seeded into which group.

Tournament format.

14 teams, two groups of seven. The top four from each group will qualify for the super 8's stage. The top four from the super 8's will contest the semi-finals & final. This will be a Test match tournament.

Points.

Win – 6 pts
Loss – 0 pts
Loss, but won 1st innings – 2 pts
Won 1st innings in drawn match – 2 pts
Lost 1st innings in drawn match – 0 pts
Won 1st innings in tied match – 4 pts
Lost 1st innings in tied match – 3 pts
Quotient – Runs per wicket for divided by runs per wicket against.

Note: Points and quotient will be carried forward into the super 8's stage.

Bonus points for each post liked by *****.

Injuries

Any player that gets injured during a match will be available for selection the following match. There are no penalties for players getting injured this time around. This means you don't have to select a reserve wicketkeeper in your squad.

Wicketkeepers

I have recently discovered that ICC '13 does not penalise you when you sim a game without a keeper in your team. Therefore, for the purpose of realism, it will be mandatory for all players to select a genuine wicketkeeper or part-time keeper, marked with the (+) symbol in the below list, in their playing XI.

Trade window

No trade window this time around. Once everyone has selected their 14 man squads, all decisions are final.

Trial matches

By request only. Maximum of one trial match per team against FC opposition. For those of you who haven't participated in one of these sim tournaments before, the main purpose of these trial matches is to see what the AI will do with your bowlers. I assure you, the AI will do stupid things with bowlers all tournament.

Please post your squads when ready (apart from harsh & HB).

BTW what determines eligibility? If it's debuts, then AFAIC I should be entitled to Harvey and the 3 W's.

Bruce Mitchell isn't eligible for your squad morgs. And you don't need to select a reserve keeper if you don't want.

How are the players added into ICC? Do you use their career averages? Or are they already in the database and you just make the teams? If I don't select a player who has played Tests, will their FC record be used? Is their in-game performance entirely tied into stats or is there some sort of 'skill' value?

Sorry for all the questions but need to know this before I go about selecting my side

What is the main eligibility definer, FWIW? Because if it's Test debuts then my squad could be completely different.....

Around 95% of the players on the list are already in the game's database, I'll just be adding a few key players who were missing, & assigning them player ratings based on their FC stats & using player ratings of players with similar stats from the respective era in which they played in as reference points.

To define a players rating the game seems to use an engine based on FC stats that becomes expanded over time. generally the best players from their era are among the best in the entire game. Whatever equation the developers of the game used seems to factor in rising FC batting/bowling averages over time.

There isn't one clear main eligibility definer, I based my decisions on a combination of debut year, retirement year, the decade in which they made their strongest impact on the game, captaincy tenure, years & matches played in a decade etc etc.

Your squad is somewhat of an outlier morgs as I had to bend some of the rules to make it happen. Without it the 20's/30's & the 50's, especially, would be too strong, plus there were too few players who played exclusively in the 1940's to make a team such as that happen.

Since MM didn't pick him, you can have Mitchell.

Shakib Al Hasan has been replaced with Alastair Cook, as GS's manager immediately recants on his all-rounder strategy.

Oh, and a couple more things. This tournament will be staged entirely in England. Also, can everybody provide a name for their team, it'd be cool to not have to have scorecards that read "60's XI vs 00's XI" etc.
