Have to agree with MM, not great batting, but that bowling lineup, I'm not sure it matters. Courtney Walsh is one of my favourite into the wind bowlers and you're probably right, he'd be the fourth guy used here. Plus look at 7,8,9 that's great lower order hitting. Though you wouldn't want to rely on them too often. Good side imo

It's weird how much better ambrose is considered than Walsh on this forum. As a kid I thought they were identical in ability

Cheers for the feedback. mr mister is right about the batting not having the ATG stars but at the same time some names who were the best of their generation like Hill and De Villiers.

THE XI
1. Victor Trumper

6. Doug Walters
7. Andy Flower+
8. Hedley Verity
9. Sir Alec Bedser (2)
10. Ian Bishop (3)
11. Michael Holding (1)

I got caught up trying to not end up with muppets from the early generations, but I'm happy enough overall. Plenty of batting with Walters and Macartney at 7&6. My favourite part is having so many quality bowling options with seamers and spin coming from multiple options.

6. Clyde Walcott
7. Kapil Dev

Alan Donald (1990s)

Have drafted a brutal bowling attack, deliberately. Lillee, Donald, Wasim and O'Reilly have it all between them. Guile. Raw pace. Left arm variety. The greatest spinner of all time. Old ball brilliance.

Openers are complimentary. One dogged. One daring. Both capable of digging in if needed.

Kanhai and Weekes are the WI lynch pin in the middle order. Both underrated imo. Jackson is the cream and I have NFI what Gunn does but he seems ok!

Blackham is a great keeper but I doubt he'll keep up to my quicks like he would've to some of the 19th century hacks that some blokes drafted here.

Thanks for organising Andrew and thanks to the other participants.

Awesome side.

But Ponting as Captain? Nah. Just give it to Sobers.

Walter Hammond wrote that the top 3 batsman of the inter-war period were George Gunn, Macartney, and Bradman. Hammond referred to Gunn as the 'Prince of Batsman', and had him batting in his personal ATG XI.

Gunn was apparently good against all kinds of bowling, but he was especially known for his attacking skills against fast bowling, and often advanced down the wicket to them. We see modern batsman advance down the wicket, especially in T2O cricket, but in the 1920s Gunn's tactic would have been revolutionary.

Really nice team Andrew, but Worrell, Root, and Waugh are naturals at 3-4-5. Although Faulkner did score a double century at 3 against Australia.
