Perhaps his death elevated his status in the minds of people. He died young, at just 32-33 years of age. Regardless of what people thought of him until then, his death brought in a lot of sympathy. With time, memories fade and only the positive points are well remembered, with the flaws brushed aside. That being said, match fixing seems like a rampant, age old phenomenon that has been around way before Hansie started his career. He is no saint, but he isn't the only sinner either.
