Saqlain Mushtaq

I have always loved the craft in Saqlain's bowling. What do you feel about him not bein in the Pakistan XI. I am sure he could command a place in any side in world cricket, be it Australia(while Warne is still banned), Sri Lanka (as a second spinner), India or New Zealand (over Vettori)

i think he definately wil be included in the series against india because of the need 4 a 6th bowler, danish kaneria hasnt fired recently. saqlain needs to concentrate on the no. of no balls he bowls.

Add England, West Indies and South Africa to that list as a first-choice spinner.

Seriously with the **** selectors anything is possilbe.

I think he's one of the finest ODI bowlers of the last decade , and a handy man to have in your attack at test level.
Great control & exceptional variation.

It says alot when you have players who would rather play county cricket than represent their country.

Should certainly be in the ODI side IMO , but I dont know where the test team is concerned , Kaneria has certainly come along in the longer form , even if most of his wickets have been against Bangladesh

Like several spinners.
Bowling no-balls off 5 paces or less is quite absurd.

Personally I think he'd command a place in any ODI side anywhere, and in any Test side typical subcontinent conditions.
Anywhere else and I'd not have him in any side other than Zim and Ban.

Quite simply Saqlain is a class apart and I would have him in all my world sides, even if as a second spinner. It would be tough to get in India with Bhajji and Kumble but I think he could get in after some fight for the spots.

If any one has any doubts over his ability and talent, just watch the highlights of the test series between India and Pakistan in India. As I said, he is ALL quality man.

He's not that bad a spinner, he haven't played many test matches in recent time so to call him a spent force would be inaccurate.

And teams like England, WI and SA doesn't have good spinner so i don't see how one can say that Saqi would only be able to qualify for teams like Bang and Zimb:rolleyes:

Malik is an allrounder, not a specialist spinner and as such shouldn't be preffered over Saqlain.

I think in the comming Indo-Pak series, Pak selectors would get their act right and we will see Saqlain playing for Pak in the tesst matches.

I too have looked upon Saqlain very highly. An extrmeley talented bowler, especially in the ODI circuit.

Malik seems average to me. I guess he's a little more of an all-rounder with that feisty bat of his...

Be fair, do you have a problem with people referring to the Australians as "Aussies"?

As for Saqlain, I rate him as a bowler, although I'm not familiar with his current form. If he's as good as I remember then I'm mystified as to why he's not being selected for Pakistan.

Not sure he'd get in the NZ side though! Vettori's bowling like complete dog's bollocks at the moment and they still won't drop him!

Aussies : Australians does not equal **** : Pakistanis.

I believe **** is a somewhat derogatory term...and Aussies, Kiwis, Lankans, not so.

Have you ever heard a commentator refer to the Pakistanis as Pakis?

well I think that term is derogatory particularly in England, unlike "Aussie".

Saqi is a good bowler ad he has worried the Indian batsmen before.
Too much politics on the subcontinent particularly in team selection.
Its similar in India where Ramesh POwar really ought to be in the Indian side touring Australia but for some crazy reason, he isn't.

Hmm, I wasn't aware of that. I don't think it's a big deal here, but then we don't have a large Pakistani population here. We have lots of Indians though - they're a very vocal group of supporters when their team comes to town!

It is a highly offensive term here - almost in line with "n___".

As we are an International community, we obviously have to be careful about these things.

Cheers guys :)

Ironically in England that suggests he's bowling well.... :)
