Can Ian Bell become the English Steve Waugh?

I was looking through Ian Bell's stats and noticed a striking similarity to Steve Waugh:

Batting at V:
  • Bell averages 51.00. Waugh averages 56.28.
  • Bell has scored 2244 runs in 52 innings. Waugh scored 6754 in 142 innings.
  • Bell's top score is 199. Waugh's top score is 200.
  • Bell has 8 not out innings. Waugh has 22 not out innings.
  • Bell has 9 tons. Waugh has 24 tons.

If England resist the temptation to put Bell at the top of the order, can he become the English Waugh? Bell has mirrored him very accurately so far, now all he needs is an off-spinning brother who bats at III.

Ian Bell just wants to be his own player, you know. Why can't Ian Bell just be England's next... Ian Bell.

So I've just read the OP and noticed that you've got Bell's HS wrong.
He got Mark Waugh's batting position wrong too.

But no; Bell will never be England's Steve Waugh. Very, very different players. They may bat in the same position but they bat there for completely opposition reasons; one of the awesome things is about cricket is that it actually makes sense either way.
