Master of optimism you are. Provided they don't kill themselves or in one case hit the white powder, Gul and Asif will be around won't they?

Not Terrible
My guess would be:

1. Martin Guptill
2. Josh Brodie
3. Jeet Raval
4. Ross Taylor
5. Jesse Ryder
6. Kane Williamson
7. Brendon McCullum
8. Daniel Vettori
9. Tim Southee
10. Neil Wagner
11. Trent Boult

Thats a guess.
1.Martin Guptill
2.Josh Brodie
3.Kane Williamson
4.Ross Taylor
5.Jesse Ryder
6.Corey Anderson
7.Brendon McCullum
8.Daniel Vettori
9.Tim Southee
10.Trent Boult
11.Mitchell McCleanghan

Probably to many left-armers though.
On further thought and realising Johan Myburgh exists I'll make a second guess:

Martin Guptill
Josh Brodie
Johan Myburgh
Ross Taylor
Jesse Ryder
Kane Williamson
Brendon McCullum
Daniel Vettori

Tim Southee
Daryl Tuffey
Trent Boult
Why 2013?

Tests:
CJ Merchant ()
MJ Guptill
JG Myburgh
LRPL Taylor
JD Ryder
NT Broom (no idea really)
+ BB McCullum
* DL Vettori
DR Tuffey
TG Southee
BJ Arnel
.
Alrighty I'm going to go

Guptill
Watling
Player X - Flynn, or any incumbent really. Could potentially be Ryder here too.
Taylor
Ryder (if he has been moved to 3 then this is possibly Broom or even Williamson)
Franklin/Vettori
McCullum
Franklin/Vettori
Southee
Tuffey
Dunno. O'Brien Martin and Bond will almost certainly be gone. I'm going to go with Boult.
Wagner and Arnel could be floating around the team too.

Scary thought thinking what England could look like then. LOL @ LT

I'll try a thing:

Cook
?
KP
Trott
Morgan
?
Prior/Davies/Kieswetter
Broad
Swann
?
Anderson

Not seeing any REAL talented young players ATM. Northeast & Hales probably the bet of them with the bat ATS. Lacking next generation fast bowling talent thats for sure.

What do you reckon? I'm trying to make a side but struggling with who opens with Cook and the seam attack as it's hard to tell what Onions is going to be like in 3/4 years if you cosnider what he was 3/4 years ago.

Onions at 31 will definately be around the squad in 2013, whether he will be consistent test quality by then is the problem.

I really worry about Cook also. His test match game isn't going to the next level. He probably will also be around then, but damn he needs to do something..

Cook's a lock in for me, it's who to partner him. Strauss will be 35 IIRC.

Assuming Strauss has retired... Key? Carberry? Denly?
Trott
Pietersen
Bell? Patel? Bopara? Morgan?
Prior
Broad
Swanny hopefully.
I.Dunno
Anderson
Onions

4th seamer, clueless. So many possibilities.

4, thanks to two half marks.

we weren't very good at this. i wonder how hard our predictions will fail for morgies 2018 thread. you would think we have it easier this time round since kane, ross, neesham, anderson, watling, southee, boult should all be still around then, but you know...

IYO, what would your national side look like in 3 years time?

Australia, FTR...
1. Hughes
2. Watson (I'd go Jaques but I dunno where to put him)
3. Ponting
4. Katich
5. Clarke
6. Ferguson
7. Steve Smith/Hauritz (move down to 9 if Hauritz)
8. Haddin (or some other keeper)
9. Johnson
10. Siddle
11. Bollinger/Hilfenhaus/McKay/other seamer

Things can change though.
7/11 played at various times in 2013.....not terrible.
