Not Terrible
Hating the referral system so far. Think we say so far that this system has added more negatives than any benefits. As was always the case, it's a massive over reaction to the Aus-Ind SCG test of a couple of years ago.
Saved McCullum from a very bad decision an hour ago.

Kemar Roach is in the middle of a very good spell at the moment. Would not surprise me to see him get a wicket shortly.
Yep new it. It was a rash shot, but the fact that he's been bowling such good lines and with Hussey struggling Ponting felt like he had to lift the scoring.

Great bowling from Roach.

And fired Shiv out on Friday, all while undermining the umpires, slowing the game down, and encouraging brattish behaviour from the players.
SL players and coaches moaning for it in the IND-SL series (as they rightly should, BCCI should be embarrassed and they will lose any future whining rights if they don't implement it). Couple of crucial decisions just went against them, could have easily changed the makeup of this match if they were rightly adjudicated.
all while undermining the umpires
Still don't get why it matters if it does. Who gives a crap about the umpires? The less we talk about them, the better.

Hmm, would say it's having the opposite impact there in that it's having a positive effect on over-appealing which was, imo, a huge blight on the game.

Just tuned into Channel Nine in time to watch the appeal. Worked perfectly that time with Clarke. That's what it's all about.

Not really, it's about overturning wrong decisions, that was given n.o. and the referral just proved the umpire to be correct making it a waste of time in that situation.

Undermining equals diminished confidence equals more poor decisions equals a counterproductive move. Saw that happen to Benson the other day, and he ended up making himself unavailable (citing a lillness) and Rauf had to take over.

Love how you expect umpires to be perfect and yet you're happy to treat them as expendible galley slaves. That will ensure we have a good pool of talented umpires going forward.

That's equally part of the game. The fielding side knows immediately too.

God, Taylor and Slater are idiots if they think Hughes shouldn't change his technique and just go back to FC and score heaps of runs. FFS, all he has to do is get some legside shots and work out how to play the shorter ball and he'll be right back in. What knobs.

Not following you. Using the Clarke referral as some sort of vindication for the system is stupid. There are plenty of cases you could use when the system has done good, but that isn't really one of them.

I don't buy that. Doesn't happen in other sports with reviews. Cricket umpires (or at least some fans/administrators) have a way overinflated opinion of themselves.

No, I want them to be paid well, and judged on performance. But I don't really care about their egos - the game is about the players, the umpires should not be part of the discussion when we talk about a specific game. They should remain in the background, making sure game operates smoothly and basically neither seen nor heard most of the time. Too often, the topic becomes the umpiring, way more often than it should in a healthy sport, and it needs to stop.
