Won first class player of the year a few seasons back off the back of multiple double centuries as an opener. Bit of a harsh call.

Never been international class, but Perren has always been a solid state option. Managed to fit into some very solid Queensland batting lineups over the years. Consistent over many seasons, and also highly versatile from opening the batting to shifting throughout the middle order. One of the better servants of Queensland cricket during the 2000's.

Shame it appears his career may be over, not unsurprising, hardly selected last season.

So that Dirk Nannes is now playing for Holland, cricket purposes he is Dutch, even though he is (IMO anyway) Australian through and through, does he count as an 'overseas' player for Victoria or does that only apply for Dwayne Bravo since he is signed for the T20 competition?

Not sure. Although there is talk in the Herald Sun about them chasing Dilshan, Murali and Gayle still. Wonder what happens with regards to Nannes and Pattinson playing in the same side?

Too important a player to see released to another state. Injury plagued over recent seasons yes, but one of the most dangerous domestic bowlers when firing.

I imagine the Tasmanian selectors are confident he has cleared his injury problems. Need the experienced Griffith with the possibility that Hilfenhaus may be playing for Australia next summer.

I thought last year someone said Pattinson would count as an overseas player.

Is there a limit of one overseas player for the T20, or is it being upped to two? Also, are they still only playing five T20 games a season? That doesn't seem like a lot in terms of developing good T20 players.

:blink:This is not strictly relevant to the thread but I didn't know where else to post it, was just looking at a Ben Hilfenhaus facebook fan page and it claims he and Ricky Ponting are related....This isn't true right?

"Benjamin William Hilfenhaus (Pronounced Hilfen-House) (born 15 March 1983 in Ulverstone, Tasmania), is an Australian cricketer who plays for the Tasmanian Tigers in Australian domestic cricket. He is Ricky Ponting's second cousin. Hilfenhaus plays club cricket for Tasmania University Cricket Club. Prior to turning fully professional, he worked as a bricklayer as well as playing cricket"

Pattinson doesn't really play for Victoria, and I'm not sure whether Nannes will be considered an overseas player.

Relatively common knowledge. A more official reference than a facebook page might be The Australia Ashes squad - a man-by-man guide - Times Online, which describes Ponting and Hilfenhaus as 2nd cousins.

Both players born in the northern part of Tasmania. Nearly everyone related in that part of the world.

Considering most Associate players can quit their Associate team and play for a Test playing nation the next week (Joyce, Morgan, Hamiliton etc). So Nannes wouldn't be classified as a overseas player. Pattinson previous was due to him have a contact in England for more then a season. But it depends on the length of his overseas contract and whether he wants to retire from playing for England to be classed as a local in Australia. If you remember Ryan Harris was going to play a season for Surrey as a local, until Queensland signed him as a local for two seasons. If he signed a one season contract he could have played as a local in Australia, then the same in England. Like what Symonds and Jaques did at the start of their careers. Similar to what Sam Robson doing now.
